Kilburn & Strode continues to expand its partnership across Europe with the hire of Jo Bradley. She specialises in life sciences and chemistry, which includes fuel cell technology, batteries, gas sensors, solar cells and LED technology.
Bradley has a particular interest in speciality-performance chemicals in a variety of areas. This includes consumer-facing products such as anti-wrinkle cream, battery and fuel cell technology. She also focuses on upcoming areas, such as 3D printed materials.

Kilburn focus on chemistry
Bradley’s general practice involves drafting, prosecution, EPO opposition and appeal work. She also undertakes opinion work regarding freedom-to-operate matters.
She began her career as in-house trainee patent attorney in 1995 at what was then BP Chemicals, before moving into private practice at D Young & Co. in 1999, where she became a partner.
This was followed by a stint as a patent attorney at Alistair Hindle & Associates, before Bradley joined Marks & Clerk in 2015 as a principle associate. Now, she joins Kilburn & Strode as a partner. The firm has 29 patent-specialist partners across its UK and Netherlands offices.

Expansion in the Netherlands
Recently, Kilburn & Strode also expanded its Dutch patent practice with the hire of European patent attorney Rike Dekker. She joined the team as a partner from patent law firm AOMB. Like Bradley, Dekker focuses her practice on pharmaceuticals and chemistry.
In the Netherlands, Rike Dekker joined a team of three focusing on mechanics, electronics and technology. This expertise complements the work of trademark partner Claudia Festen, who works between horticulture and patent law.
Marks & Clerk moves
However, the hire is another loss for mixed patent firm Marks & Clerk. Prior to Bradley’s move, two senior partners Stephen Blake and Douglas Rankin left the practice to create their own IP firm, Matter IP.
However, Marks & Clerk’s UK managing partner, Simon Mounteney, says, “Our current practice is unaffected by these departures and our clients have not been impacted.”
“As part of our annual programme, we will shortly be electing a number of new partners from among our excellent pool of associates. We see no need to take specific action in relation to these particular changes.” Currently, Marks & Clerk has 147 patent practitioners, of whom 47 are partners.
