J.J. Watt Announces Retirement After 2022-2023 Season

Date:

Arizona Cardinals defensive end J.J. Watt has announced that Sunday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would be the last home game of his career. He will apparently enter retirement after the 2022-2023 season ends.

Watt announced his retirement via his own Twitter account on Tuesday.

Watt was the 11th overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans. He played for 11 seasons with the Texans, racking up a Hall of Fame-type stats before signing as a free agent with Arizona. He will have played two full seasons with them after Week 18 concludes.

Among Watt’s accomplishments are three NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards, five First Team All-Pro selections and five Pro Bowl selections. He holds the NFL record for most seasons with 20-plus sacks, has led the league in sacks twice and has already been chosen to the 2010s All-Decade Team. The Hall of Fame surely awaits Watt when he become eligible.
