A Brisbane bayside cottage that was completely rebuilt and then trashed by a tenant will go under the hammer next weekend, with the agent simply saying ‘it is what it is’.

Located in Wynnum, the one bedroom cottage on a 405sq m block will go to auction on Saturday, February 24 at 11am.

It is being marketed by Century 21 Adams & Costello agent Nathalie Pallandre.

“This property ‘is what it is’, having had occupants blemish what was a brand new, steel framed cottage, structurally sound and completely rebuilt in 2019,” the listing says.

“No asbestos or bad plumbing, this property is only four years old!”

Listing photos show light fittings have been pulled out in the living area, spray paint applied to walls and ceilings, glass smashed in the bathroom and vanity doors removed.

Polished timber floors will also need to be redone, several cornmers of walls have what appear to be hack marks.

“It is structurally sound and everything was new just four years ago,” Ms Pallandre said.

“It is unfortunate but there is a blank canvas opportunity there.”

But fixer-uppers can – and have – proven to be hot property.

In October last year, a rental property destroyed and abandoned by tenants sparked a buyer frenzy after being put up for auction with no reserve price.

The four-bedroom, one-bathroom Logan house was trashed from floor to ceiling, walls and doors ripped from the frame and electricals stripped, after sitting empty for more than a year after the last tenants upped stumps.

The interstate owner opted to sell at a rare no-reserve auction rather than take on the job of repairing the extensive damage.

What happened on auction day broke Australian records with 161 registered bidders on the day, with 19 Billabong Drive, Crestmead, selling for $494,700.

Over 500 spectators watched on as bidding started at $1.

The following month, a derelict property at 16 Forestglen Cres, Browns Plains, which was also trashed sold under the hammer for $540,000.
