Alcohol during a flight trip has been a well-known practice worldwide for ages. Interestingly, there are also airlines that do not serve alcohol on board. Several airlines in the United States temporarily dismissed the practice on domestic flights due to the increasing number of bad passenger behaviours.

Airlines from Islamic countries ban inflight alcohol as Islamic culture does not support alcohol consumption. Some of those carriers include Afriqiyah Airways, Kuwait Airway, Air Arabia, Ariana Afghan, Biman Bangladesh, Iran Air, Jazeera Airways, Mahan Air, Pakistan International Airlines, Saudi Arabian Airlines, and Tunisair.

Simple Flying looks into inflight alcohol practices worldwide and found that few airlines in Saudi Arabia offer alternatives like guava and mango juice. Saudia has a far-reaching network, and the country’s flights go as far as the United States, Asia, and Europe.

Sharjah-based Air Arabia also prohibits smoking and alcohol are onboard. Although its flights do not go as far as Saudi’s, its fleet of narrowbody Airbus jets will travel to Europe, well into southeast Asia and Africa. Another Gulf airline Jazeera Airways follows a no-alcohol policy.

Bring Your Own Booze inflight alcohol practice too exists

The passengers of Pakistan International Airlines are not allowed to consume alcohol aboard an aircraft.

However, it is crucial to remember that not all Gulf carriers prohibit alcohol on their flights. Leading airlines such as Emirates, Qatar, and Etihad serve alcohol inflight. All three airlines are exclusively international airlines.

Malaysia Airlines doesn’t serve alcohol on airlines within three hours flying time of its Kuala Lumpur hub. Turkish Airlines does not provide alcohol; however, it does on international flights.

Two airlines, Royal Brunei Airlines and Egyptair, follow the ‘Bring Your Own Booze’ practice and allow it on their flights. Non-Muslim travellers are permitted to bring their alcohol on international flights and consume it throughout the voyage. Leftovers will be confiscated in the airport since Brunei is a dry country.

Egypt’s state-owned carrier Egyptair doesn’t provide alcohol on its flights. The traveller can pick up a bottle at the duty-free shop and bring it onboard.
