From the first moment Jerry and Lisa Tanner walked through the front door of their Riverland home, they knew they had found their next renovation project.

Not only that, the couple knew exactly how to transform the circa 1900-built twin gable Tudor residence at 23 Fenwick Rd, Berri, to ensure it would stand out from the crowd.

“When we saw the place, what we loved about it was that it was a timber frame Tudor with great columns … and we knew right away that it would respond really well to a Hamptons-style renovation, which we love,” Mr Tanner said.

“From what we saw, it needed a good renovation and hadn’t been touched since the mid eighties.

“The roof needed to be replaced, along with some other minor work but as it went along, we thought what the Riverland really needed was something a little more high-end luxury.

“So we essentially gutted the main house and put in new ceilings, new floors, new walls, new beams and we really opened it right up to include new plumbing and electrical.

“It really was a million-dollar renovation … and the property also came with an old barn, which we renovated first and lived in while we did the main house.”

Renovations were formally completed last year with the property now listed for sale.

It is expected to fetch upwards of $2m, setting a new residential sales record for Berri.

The current record holder is a four-bedroom home on Riverview Drive, which sold for $1.9m in August this year.

Mr Tanner said the home would suit a variety of buyers, with the main residence encompassing four bedrooms, a well-appointed kitchen, and both indoor and outdoor entertaining spaces.

Meanwhile, a self-contained barn, complete with two bedrooms and a kitchenette, could serve as a home office, teenage retreat or Airbnb, as it is currently used.

The property also features a large in-ground pool, a tennis court and parking for up to seven cars.

“It’s a beautiful place but the reality is that we don’t have the time that we used to to get out there and enjoy it,” he said.

“Our kids live interstate now and we have a property on the Gold Coast so would like to do something similar up there now.”

Expressions of interest close at 1pm on December 15.
