Rockstar Games has delayed the release of physical copies of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.

PlayStation and Xbox versions of the game will now arrive Dec. 17, and Nintendo Switch versions won’t see release until “early 2022,” with no more specific dates given. Physical copies for all three consoles were originally set to launch Tuesday, Dec. 7, roughly a month after the game went live digitally.

That digital launch was anything but smooth. Players on consoles found the games to be ugly, buggy messes, with rain effects that made them all but unplayable. On PC, players couldn’t even access their purchases for days following release, as Rockstar had to remove the game temporarily as it worked to remove files said to be “unintentionally included” in the game.

Two major post-launch updates have been deployed for the game’s many issues, including adding ground fog to San Andreas to improve the visuals in-game and several changes to the rain.

Rockstar didn’t provide a reason for the physical release delays, but it’s possible they hope to sand off some more edges before shipping.
