Go First inducts another brand new A320neo into its fleet

Date:

Indian low-cost carrier, Go First, formerly known as GoAir, has recently inducted a brand-new Airbus A320neo into its fleet. The new aircraft is also Go First’s 49th Airbus A320neo aircraft and now has a total fleet of 57 Airbus aircraft.

Go First currently has an order book for 144 A320neo of which 49 have been delivered to the airline. The airline is aggressively adding new aircraft to its fleet over the current summer period. The carrier already took delivery of two A320neos during the first week of May which have since entered commercial service with the carrier.

After being rebranded from GoAir to Go First, the airline underwent a change in management. Under a new board of management, Go First recently announced new routes which will connect the cities of Mumbai, Kochi and Kannur to Doha in Qatar. The airline plans to operate 4 directly flight a week between Mumbai and Doha and a twice-weekly service from Cochin International Airport (COK) in Kochi to Doha as well as from Kannur International Airport (CNN) to Doha.

In a statement the Chief Executive of Go First, Kaushik Khona said, “Go First welcomes 49th A320neos to its fleet. We at Go First, believe that the airline is uniquely placed with its ultra-low-cost structure that has always stood us in good stead. Go First has one of the youngest fleets globally – average fleet age of 3.7 years as of February 2021.”

The CEO of Go First was keen to point out that 82 per cent of the carrier’s fleet consists of the more fuel-efficient A320neo which according to Airbus “offers significant environmental performance” for airlines with the Airbus A320neo offering nearly a “50 per cent reduction in noise footprint compared to previous generation aircraft.”

The addition of the new aircraft which arrived at Delhi International Airport comes at a time when the Indian Government decided to increase the number of flights that airlines in India could operate. Initially, the Government in India had restricted airlines to operating 65 per cent of pre-Covid flights, however, that has now been increased to 72.5 per cent of pre-Covid levels. This decision was taken following a steady increase in passenger demand for air travel in India.
