Gambit won the CIS derby against Natus Vincere with a 2-0 scoreline (16-7 Overpass, 16-11 Mirage) which will serve as a confidence booster ahead of the PGL Stockholm Major.
Vladislav “nafany” Gorshkov downplayed the importance of the grand final win in the post-match interview, seeing that there was little to play for either team, but Gambit will surely use the victory as a confidence booster ahead of their next challenge — the PGL Stockholm Major.
Both teams had secured their Legends spot at the Major before the playoffs even started, but dispatched of their semi-final opponents and pushed on toward the title match where just a $5,500 prize difference was on the line. Gambit did that in style — trouncing Entropiq 16-0, 16-4 —, while Natus Vincere had a bit of a tougher time against Virtus.pro, 16-9, 16-12.
The grand final series kicked off on Overpass, where Sergey “Ax1Le” Rykhtorov and Timofey “interz” Yakushin set up Gambit for a strong Terrorist side on their map pick. As the half was nearing the end, Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov started warming up, going on to play a near-perfect CT side after the switch. The AWPer went 12K-0D on the defense while picking up a couple of key multikills on A to close the map quickly, 16-7.
Gambit were pushing for a quick 2-0 as things moved to Mirage, where they again put Natus Vincere on the back foot as CT. Aleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev activated after a slow first map and got his team back into it at 8-7 for the half, with a spectacular 1v4 in the pistol giving hope for a comeback. Unfortunately, a saved AK-47 on sh1ro was the difference-maker in the third round, unraveling things for their opponents and seeing Gambit close out comfortably, 16-11.
