Fractal Unveils AI Model to Generate Images from Indian Language Prompts

Date:

Fractal, a SaaS unicorn based in New York, has introduced an artificial intelligence-powered model in India that can generate images from languages.

Kalaido.ai: First-of-its-Kind Text-to-Image Creation Model

Fractal’s Kalaido.ai is touted as the first text-to-image creation model capable of generating high-quality images from text prompts in English and 17 Indian languages, including Hindi, Sanskrit, and Tamil. Trained on a public dataset of 70 million images, this model represents a significant advancement in AI technology.

Efficiency and Cost Savings

In internal trials, Kalaido.ai demonstrated 40% higher efficiency in producing images compared to existing solutions. By combining “training free” techniques with minimal training, the tool achieves better image quality, realism, and detail, while also reducing GPU costs and carbon footprint.

Real-World Impact

Kalaido.ai has already made a tangible impact by significantly reducing the cost of creating images for a global soup brand by 79%, saving approximately Euro 5000 per image. The model can also be used for various other purposes such as food photography, campaign images, banners, product one-pagers, and game development.

Fractal’s Journey to Profitability

Fractal achieved profitability in the financial year ended March 31, 2023. The company reported a profit of INR 194.4 Cr in FY23, a significant turnaround from the INR 148.4 Cr loss in the previous fiscal year. This milestone underscores Fractal’s growth and resilience in the competitive AI market.

Entry into Unicorn Club

Fractal’s journey to becoming a unicorn took 21 years, culminating in private equity firm TPG investing $360 million at a valuation exceeding $2 billion. TPG Capital, Apax Partners, and Khazanah Nasional are among the company’s notable investors.

Market Outlook

The generative AI market in India is poised for substantial growth, expected to increase from $1.1 billion in 2023 to over $17 billion by 2030, with a CAGR of 48%. India currently boasts over 70 generative AI startups, highlighting the country’s growing prominence in AI innovation.
