Forge an Empire Like No Other in Anno 117: Pax Romana on PS5

Date:

Ubisoft has announced that the next game in its beloved city-building Anno series, Anno 117: Pax Romana, will bask in the majesty of The Eternal City itself. Players will assume the role of a governor during the glory days of the Roman Empire in 117 AD. We got a light-hearted live-action trailer as a teaser, with the game set for PS5 in 2025.

Very little is known about the game, but developed by Ubisoft Mainz (the team behind the excellent Anno 1800), we’d be willing to bet it will be an intricate strategy experience. As governor, you will ensure the economic, social, and military security of the provinces under your command.

Set during the height of the Pax Romana (literally “Roman peace”), a 200-year-long, largely peaceful golden age enforced by overwhelming military dominance, a Roman citizen could famously travel from Brittania to Syria using a single passport, language, and currency. So fearsome was the Empire’s reputation for violent reprisals against any who would dare harm one of its own that citizens of Rome would reputedly need not fear being robbed at any point on that months-long journey.

Are you a fan of the Anno series? What do you think of 117 being set during the Pax Romana and of playing as a Roman governor? Let us know in the comments section below, citizen.
