The discussion on connectivity standards for IoT will likely continue forever, as technology continues advancing into the future. Standards like 5G, Zigbee, and Wi-Fi 6 are driving the industry forward with high-quality, trustworthy industry benchmarks for connectivity. And, according to recent releases from Silicon Labs and The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) (formerly the Zigbee Alliance), there’s a new, and powerful kid on the block in the form of Matter, which previously was known as Project ‘Connected Home over IP’ or CHIP, and is now endorsed by the CSA.

Matter was developed at Silicon Labs and the silicon, software and solutions provider says the standard is designed to provide interoperable, reliable, secure connectivity across IoT devices and networks. It reportedly simplifies product development and end-user experience through unifying connectivity protocols under one unified standard for LED lighting, smart door locks, HVAC, access control and lots of other Smart Home and Building applications. Silicon Labs says the Matter solution works in all the major connected ecosystems, including Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google.

To explain everything you need to know is, as one might imagine, a bit of a conversation. That’s why Silicon Labs is hosting a virtual panel on Tuesday June 8 at Noon Eastern called, “Project CHIP is Matter: Now What?” Click here to join the panel and find out what you need to know about this smart connectivity standard. The panel is written to offer operational insights for everyone from developers and systems integrators who are ready to get started with Matter to those that are still determining their connectivity strategy and don’t really know where to start, and will include expert presenters from Allegion, Comcast, Nanoleaf, Wyze, Connectivity Standard Alliance and Silicon Labs.

“The success of the IoT industry depends on simplicity, reliability and security, and our wireless solutions for Matter allow developers to focus on innovation and bring products to market that enable a seamless consumer experience,” said Matt Johnson, president, Silicon Labs.

Matter has been released as a global IoT connectivity standard that builds on top of existing IP-connectivity protocols to enable cross-platform IoT communication. Basically, the universal translator-style connectivity conversion standard that some of us who love simplicity have been asking for for years.

Tobin Richardson, President and CEO of CSA said, “Our ongoing collaboration with industry experts such as Silicon Labs has allowed us to create a secure, industry-unifying standard to serve as the building block of connected devices.”
