The mother of a six-year-old boy who shot his teacher at a Virginia school has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for using marijuana while owning a firearm.
Deja Taylor’s son used his mom’s handgun to seriously wound Richneck Elementary educator Abby Zwerner in her first-grade classroom
Investigators found nearly an ounce of marijuana in Taylor´s bedroom, evidence of frequent drug use in her text messages and paraphernalia following the incident in January.
U.S. District Judge Mark Davis said Taylor’s ‘dereliction of duty and responsibility’ as a parent means the ‘cries out for a sentence of imprisonment’, Fox8 Live reports.
Meanwhile Zwerner told the court she was still contends daily with ‘deep emotional scars’.

Following the shooting, Taylor smoked two blunts, prosecutors said. She also failed drug tests while awaiting sentencing on the federal charges
‘I have nightmares of gore, blood and death — always involving a firearm,’ she said.
‘I feel as if I’ve lost my purpose – I loved children,’ she said, adding she had suffered a ‘massive’ financial loss and no longer works for the school system.
