As revealed at the CESS 2022 trade show, Death Stranding Director’s Cut is set to arrive on the PC later this spring.
We were going to describe the standard PC release as the vanilla version but there’s very little about Hideo Kojima’s package-delivering, ghost-busting, fetus-carrying game that could be described as vanilla.
Taking place in a post-apocalyptic world where America looks like Iceland and rain can age you in seconds, it arrived on the PlayStation 4 in 2019 (check out our review here) and landed on the PC in 2020. The enhanced Director’s Cut of the game, which adds “buddy bots”, cargo catapults and more, hit PlayStation 5 in 2021 and it’s this enhanced version that’s coming to the PC this Spring.

The PC version will make use of Intel’s XeSS image-enhancing technology, available through Intel’s Arc graphics cards/processors, which are also set to arrive in Spring 2022. In fact, it’s one of the first PC games to support XeSS, though you’ll be able to play Death Stranding Director’s Cut without an XeSS card.

It costs $10 to upgrade the PlayStation 4 version of Death Stranding to the PlayStation 5 Director’s Cut which, while we’d prefer the upgrade was free, isn’t going to break the bank. However, while you’ll be able to purchase Death Stranding Director’s Cut as a stand-alone title, publishers 505 Games have yet to reveal if there’ll be a similar upgrade path for PC players.
When asked, they responded with “…stay tuned, we’ll have more info to share later on this month.” We suspect there’ll be some upgrade path in place because failing to offer one would generate an awful lot of ill-will.
