Some trainers may be a bit confused with Genesect’s recent feature in Raids. Will it have the chance to be shiny in Pokemon GO?

Genesect has always been a strange case in the world of Pokemon. It combines several pre-existing elements in the franchise’s lore to create something of a perfect storm regarding its origins and capabilities. As such, some trainers may find themselves wondering just what to expect from it. Recently, Niantic Labs announced it would be taking a spot on the five-star Raid roster in a brand new form.

What does this mean for its shiny chance?

Genesect is a unique case when it comes to shiny chance. Its base “regular” release with no drive does have a shiny variant at the time of writing. However, other forms holding drives currently do not. So, trainers can find a shiny Genesect with no drive, but will not be able to find a shiny Genesect with a Burn or Douse drive.

Genesect made its debut in Pokemon GO in March 2020. Its Burn drive counterpart was released in January 2021 and its Douse drive counterpart recently made its way into the game on Oct. 1. Shiny no-drive Genesect appeared in August 2020 as part of Unova Week.

Shiny Genesect is particularly easy to tell apart from a typical Genesect simply due to the fact that its color palette is entirely red with silver eyes as opposed to the usual purple and red, respectively. At the time of writing, the color of the drive is not subject to change.

Douse drive Genesect is currently being featured as a five-star Raid boss for the first half of October 2021.

This Pokemon is a prehistoric mythical species brought back to life and augmented with technology by Team Plasma. Also known as the “Paleozoic” Pokemon, it is supposedly 300 million years old. Its PokeDex number is #649.
