The Call of Duty Cold War age rating is good to know before handing over the controller to just anyone.

As the latest iteration in the blockbuster first-person shooter franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War aims to simulate the thrill of wartime combat during the 1980s with hard-hitting scenarios and realistic visuals.

In North America, where the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) video game content rating system applies, Black Ops Cold War is rated Mature 17+.

According to the ESRB, Mature 17+ content is “generally suitable for ages 17 and up. May contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language.”

In Europe, where the Pan European Game Information (PEGI) video game content rating system applies, Black Ops Cold War is rated PEGI 18.

According to PEGI, “The adult classification is applied when the level of violence reaches a stage where it becomes a depiction of gross violence, apparently motiveless killing, or violence towards defenceless characters. The glamorisation of the use of illegal drugs and explicit sexual activity should also fall into this age category.”

It’s also important to note that Black Ops Cold War’s multiplayer game modes enable players to interact and communicate with each other, so players may often be exposed to language usually associated with older-rated games.
