Despite being the United Kingdom’s flag carrier, there are a significant number of destinations in the UK not served by British Airways. To increase its connectivity across the UK, British Airways has partnered with UK regional carrier Loganair to expand its range of connections.
Codeshare agreements are an integral part of the aviation industry, and British Airways has them in place worldwide, particularly with other oneworld member airlines. This allows passengers to reach destinations not served by the carrier without opening a separate booking. For example, you could fly from London Heathrow to Chicago with British Airways, then onwards to Los Angeles with American Airlines on the same ticket.
18 new routes
British Airways will now place its BA flight code on 18 more routes flown by Loganair, giving the airline an even greater reach across its home nations. The routes that will receive the British Airways code are,
- Aberdeen (ABZ) to Belfast City (BHD), Birmingham (BHX), Bristol (BRS), Manchester (MAN), and Southampton (SOU)
- City of Derry (LDY) to London (STN) and Liverpool (LPL)
- Cornwall Airport Newquay (NQY) to Manchester (MAN)
- Exeter (EXT) to Edinburgh (EDI), Glasgow (GLA), and Newcastle (NCL)
- Isle of Man (IOM) to Birmingham (BHX), Edinburgh (EDI), and Manchester (MAN)
- Inverness (INV) to Birmingham (BHX)
- Norwich (NWI) to Aberdeen (ABZ) and Edinburgh (EDI)
- Teesside (MME) to Southampton (SOU)
These will join 20 other routes already playing a role in the British Airways-Loganair codeshare agreement. The airline revealed that those traveling to Manchester from Aberdeen and the Isle of Man would be able to connect onto other British Airways codeshare flights, such as those operated by Aer Lingus’ United Kingdom subsidiary. Interestingly, the airline didn’t confirm that these benefits also apply to passengers from Newquay.
Commenting on the expanded agreement, BA’s Director of Network and Alliances, Neil Chernoff, said,
“It is great news to be expanding our longstanding codeshare agreement with Loganair. This will create better connectivity and offer more choice for our customers between UK regions and destinations all over the world thanks to our expansive global route network and Loganair’s extensive regional services.”

What benefits does the codeshare bring?
The codeshare agreements bring several benefits to both the airlines and the passengers. From the airlines’ point of view, it can potentially attract more passengers from a wider catchment area than it previously could. Additionally, it could entice passengers that would not book directly with one carrier. For example, a passenger who only books through British Airways would now be able to access a Loganair flight.
For passengers, the benefits are even more remarkable. Not only can they access additional routes, but they can also benefit from taking these flights. A passenger enrolled in the British Airways frequent flyer program would be able to collect frequent flyer miles (Avios) and status points (tier points) on their codeshare bookings when flying on the BA flight number.
