British Airways A380 to return to San Francisco, Dallas and Singapore

Date:

British Airways has announced that it has added three new Airbus A380 routes to its summer 2022 flight schedule. According to the airline’s website, the U.K. flag carrier will begin serving Dallas, Fort Worth (DFW), Singapore (SIN), and San Francisco (SFO) with its Airbus A380 aircraft from late March 2022, which is also the beginning of the airline’s summer schedule.

Just over a year ago, there were still doubts about the future of British Airways Airbus A380s. The carrier retired all of Boeing 747 aircraft last October and at the time of these retirement flights, there were suggestions that British Airways may never bring back the A380 into service, with all of its Airbus A380 aircraft being put into long-term storage.

However, it now seems that the aircraft does have a future with British Airways because as of Monday, November 8th, the London-based carrier operated its first A380 flight in well over a year to Frankfurt Airport (FRA). British Airways is also planning to bring more Airbus A380s back into service and has scheduled daily A380 flights to Dallas, San Francisco and Singapore from March 27th onwards.

Intially, there were internal plans at BA to first bring the Airbus A380 back to Dallas, Fort Worth, from early December. However, the airport’s infrastructure wasn’t ready for the A380 just yet. However, the airline does plan to operate A380 flights to Dallas from March of next year.

Like always, when booking flights so far in advance, there is always the possibility that the aircraft may be swapped, especially given the rapid changes due to Covid-19. Therefore, potential travellers should be aware that British Airways could swap the Airbus A380 out for a different type such as the Boeing 787, Boeing 777 or Airbus A350.

British Airways’ current schedule for the Airbus A380 only runs until the end of February 2022. The carrier’s website schedule states that BA is operating A380 flights to Los Angeles, Miami, and Dubai from December. In January, the carrier plans to operate A380 flights to Johannesburg which will replace A380 specific services to Los Angeles.

Since Dallas was only recently added, it seems that British Airways is planning where it wants to send the A380 for next summer, as it has not updated its schedule for most of March. It is also doubtful that British Airways would temporarily ground the A380 again for a month before launching to so many destinations.
