Breaking News: MS Swaminathan, Renowned Indian Agricultural Scientist and Father of the Green Revolution, Dies at 98 in Chennai.

He was known for helping India produce more food and preventing hunger. He had three daughters, and his wife passed away in 2022. Swaminathan was born on August 7, 1925, in Kumbakonam.

His parents wanted him to become a doctor, but he decided to work in agriculture after seeing a severe shortage of food during the Bengal famine of 1943. In the 1960s and 1970s, he introduced new ideas to Indian farming, which stopped big famines and made India able to grow enough food for itself.

In 1987, Swaminathan won the World Food Prize, which is like the Nobel Prize for agriculture. Subsequently, he founded the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation in Chennai and garnered more than 40 accolades in acknowledgment of his significant contributions.

He was granted esteemed distinctions like the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan, as well as receiving international acclaim such as the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1971 and the Albert Einstein World Science Award in 1986. Furthermore, Time magazine distinguished him by including him among the top 20 influential figures from Asia

during the 20th century.
