The Fleet Marine Force of the Brazilian Navy’s Marine Corps is advancing the introduction of the 4×4 Oshkosh Defense M1278A1 Heavy Guns Carrier (HGC) Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV).

The first four of twelve vehicles acquired in October 2020 for USD15.1 million were recently delivered to the Marine Armour Battalion. Training on the new vehicle is under way, a source close to the vehicle programme told Janes .

The remaining vehicles will be received by 2026.

The Brazilian JLTV is equipped with a SuperWinch 12605482 electric winch; one driver’s smart display unit and two commander’s smart display units made by General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada; Amerex’s fire suppression system; exportable electric power kit; silent watch energy storage kit; and driver’s cameras.

Communications are delivered by L3Harris Falcon III RF-7800V-V51x very-high-frequency (VHF) radio and SCI Technology TOCNET-V intercom. One vehicle will have the Falcon III RF-7800M-MP multiband and RF-7800M-MP HF radios, the General Command of the Marine Corps (CGCFN) told Janes earlier.
