Bogdanoff twins added more fuel to a long-running gag in the crypto circles this week as they claimed to have helped Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto develop the flagship cryptocurrency. The brothers made the bizarre claims about Bitcoin during two separate television appearances and said they were able to “participate in the elaboration of some of the source code.”

Bogdanoff Twins Claim Involvement With Bitcoin Creator

French TV personalities, Igor and Grichka Bogdanoff are part of a long-running joke that portrays them as powerful actors in the crypto sphere who call all the shots. The gag became wildly popular after a meme showing them order a substantial dump circulated widely online. Now in the television show “Non-Stop People”, Igor has claimed that Nakamoto himself had something to do with the meme’s virality. 

“It is probably Nakamoto who made [the photo] circulate,” Igor said. The meme was “in all blockchains between 2010-2012 [and] downloaded more than 1.3 billion times,” he added further.

In another public appearance on L’Heure des Pros, the twin dwelled further on their supposed relationship with Nakamoto and Bitcoin development. 

While elaborating on their claims, Grichka Bogdanoff stated, “Igor and I, as mathematicians, were able to participate in the elaboration of some of the source code, especially the ‘predictive code’.”

The twins explained that they came in contact with a Japanese scientist “Soïtchiro Shimoda, “ allegedly involved with “the mythical person or a group of people” who created Bitcoin and discussed blockchain ideas with him back in the early days. They also claimed that Shimoda gave them two “ancient bitcoins” in “physical form” in 2008.

Bogdanoff Twins Hint at Rolling Out Their Own Crypto

Although they’re physicists by training, the Bogdanoff twins have evolved into socialites with little credibility over time. They have repeatedly courted controversy with outlandish scientific theories, disputed academic credentials, and a recent legal row involving a bipolar millionaire. 

Predictably, their latest statements on crypto have been treated lightly. According to Hellmouth Banner, editor-in-chief of French crypto news outlet Journal Du Coin, there is no weight to these claims. He noted, “in terms of credibility, [the brothers] are equivalent to a scientific version of the Kardashian family.”

But it seems the twins will keep the gag machine going with their new experiment in cryptocurrencies. During the interview, the Bogdanoff brothers briefly talked about introducing their own digital currency by the name of Exo. Given that meme-stocks and currencies are in vogue these days, the twins might as well hit the jackpot.
