Biden Administration Pledges Almost $1B to Improve 114 U.S. Airports

Date:

The Federal Aviation Administration announced February 15 that it was given $970 million by the Biden administration to improve 114 airports across the country.

Most of the grants featured in the funding pledge will be used to refurbish airports, make facilities more sustainable, provide more airport access to smaller communities, improve passenger experiences or build new terminals.

“Under this administration, we are doing more to improve the travel experience than ever before, from expanding consumer protections to modernizing the physical infrastructure,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. “These investments we’re announcing today, made possible by President Biden’s historic infrastructure package, will make it easier for passengers to get to and through airports, create jobs, and increase safety for all.”

With a grant of $40 million, Chicago O’Hare International Airport was awarded the most money in this funding round. The second-largest grant was given to Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia at $35 million. Two airports (Los Angeles International Airport and San Francisco International Airport) received $31 million in funding each. Salt Lake City International Airport, Denver International Airport and Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina are the three other locations that received at least $20 million in grants.

“Today’s funding not only helps modernize airports to meet the needs of travelers today and for years to come but also creates good-paying job opportunities in communities both large and small,” said Shannetta R. Griffin, P.E., the FAA’s associate administrator for airports.
