Beyond the Summit prohibits Hax from attending Smash Summit 11 due to concerns about recent content

Published

on

Tournament organizer Beyond the Summit has officially banned competitive Super Smash Bros. Melee player Aziz “Hax” Al-Yami from competing at Smash Summit 11 after many people in the Smash community “expressed concerns” about the content in a YouTube video and document shared by Hax on June 4.

In the video Evidence.zip 2, Hax spent more than two hours discussing various topics in the Smash community, esports, and social media as a whole. This included a substantial portion focusing on William “Leffen” Hjelte, calling him ‘a disease’ and various equations to a psychopath.

In his document, Hax specifically brings up the original Evidence.zip situation, where Adam “Armada” Lindgren posted to the SmashBoards forum complaining about Leffen’s toxicity in 2013. Much of the Smash community is now coming to his defense, unlike with the original, which eventually led to a competitive ban for Leffen in Europe.

Because of the video, continued statements being made on social media, and concerns being raised by multiple attendees, BTS has prohibited Hax’s attendance at Smash Summit 11. Leffen himself admitted that he was concerned about his safety at future events and would be looking into potential legal options following the document and video being released.

Hax, who has been a part of the Melee community for more than 16 years, was not part of the initial Smash Summit 11 roster since he did not qualified through the Summit Champions League in May. He still would have had multiple chances to make it into the event, whether as a crowdfunded player or by placing well at Rollback Rumble: THE BIG ONE in July.

BTS only specified that this decision prohibits Hax from attending Smash Summit 11 and no other events run by the tournament organizer in the future.

Skye’s ‘nerf’ in VALORANT Episode 3 is actually a massive buff

Published

on

Riot is planning to overhaul Skye in VALORANT’s upcoming episode, according to an early access test build, increasing the cost of her Trailblazer and Guiding Light abilities, reducing her flash charges from three to two, and adding a 40-second cooldown to the mix.

At first glance, the changes look like a plain and simple nerf, targeting the agent’s presence in solo queue and pro play. Though they’re not as they seem.

A cost increase of 150 creds for both Trailblazer and Guiding Light will almost certainly hit Skye in the opening rounds of a match and one less flash will reduce her impact in securing or defending a site. But a 40-second cooldown could work in her favor.

As soon as Skye uses her flash, that 40-second cooldown starts ticking. If she pops it immediately, it will be up and ready again in 40 seconds. The same can be said for her second flash.

This means over the course of a 140-second round, which can be further increased to 185 seconds if the spike is planted, Skye could potentially use her flash four or even five times.

She’ll be able to gather information, wait, wind down the clock with her team, and have her flashes ready again for a push or a retake. This gives her much more flexibility as an agent, from both an attacking and defending perspective.

But the biggest change to Skye comes in the form of her new flash animation. When Skye uses a flash on the live servers, a one-second equip-time prevents her from instantly swapping back to her weapon. If she flashes down a corridor, for example, she’ll have to wait before peeking out into the opening.

Riot has reduced this animation time in the next episode, allowing her to better capitalize off her flashes. She equips her “bent birds” faster, and if she lets a bird “fly straight,” she can pop the flash without taking her gun down, VALORANT gameplay researcher Coleman “Altombre” Palm confirmed on Reddit

In a dev interview in 2020, Riot differentiated duelists and initiators for their ability debuff and re-equip times.

Agents like Phoenix or Yoru are intended to have shorter ability debuff times but faster re-equip times, allowing them to thieve in one vs. one situations. Whereas agents such as Skye or Breach are supposed to have longer debuff times and longer re-equip times, making them more reliant on their teammates.

The upcoming changes to Skye steer away from this direction, blurring the lines between duelists and initiators. As always, she’ll be able to support her teammates, gather information, and heal up, but she’ll also be able to take the game into her own hands, entry-frag, and make plays.

In other words, she’ll be stronger than ever.

VALORANT’s Episode Three, Act One is scheduled for Tuesday, June 22. The patch will include changes to numerous agents and weapons and introduce KAY/O, a new agent to the game.

How to unlock Buzz in Brawl Stars?

Published

on

Buzz joined the roster of Brawl Stars alongside the latest season, Jurassic Splash, earlier today. Using his whistle, the cute dragon will wreak havoc on the battlefield.

He has a chromatic rarity, however, which doesn’t make him the easiest Brawler to acquire, similar to Belle in the previous season.

Here are his abilities and gadget:

Main Attack: Buzz Off

  • A series of short-range attacks that goes from left to right.

Super Ability: Torpedo Throw

  • Buzz shoots his Torpedo Buoy and pulls himself to the target enemy or a wall.
  • The Brawler briefly stuns enemies in the area after arriving at the location. The stun length is based on the distance traveled.
  • Buzz can charge his Super ability passively from nearby enemy Brawlers, the range is visualized as a circle around the Brawler.

Gadget: Reserve Buoy

  • Instantly charges the super ability but removes the stun effect from the next super activation.

Star Power: Tougher Torpedo

  • Minimum super stun length is increased by 0.5 seconds.

Star Power: Eyes Sharp

  • Super ability charging area is increased by 33 percent.

Here is how to unlock Buzz on Brawl Stars.

How to unlock Buzz on Brawl Stars?

Buzz is a chromatic Brawler, the highest level of rarity, so he’ll be very rare in random boxes. But throughout the Jurassic Splash season, which will last for 70 days, the players who own a premium pass will be able to unlock the Brawler upon reaching tier 30.

The batle pass method should be complete after a few weeks of completing both daily quests. If you don’t have much time to play, it’ll be easier to earn more XP at the end of the season when all seasonal quests will be up.

If you don’t own a premium pass, you’ll have to believe in your luck and hope to get him in a random box.

Gamers Without Borders 2021 announced with $1.5 million charity prize pool

Published

on

Gamers Without Borders, a virtual festival consisting of a number of esports tournaments, as well as live shows, concerts, and a learning platform, announced its return for the second year. The project is backed by the Saudi Arabian Federation for Electronic and Intellectual Sports (SAFEIS), with the $1.5 million charity CS:GO tournament hosted by ESL just one part of the month-long festival that will distribute $10 million.

Eight teams will compete in the Gamers Without Borders 2021 CS:GO event on June 22-27, with the teams that place higher at the event given the opportunity to distribute a larger chunk of the prize pool to the charity of their choosing. The mission of this year’s edition of the festival is to distribute COVID-19 vaccines to underdeveloped countries and communities at risk.

GWB 2021 will be mouz’s first event since winning Flashpoint 3 in May

The tournament will feature exclusively BO3 matches, starting with two four-team GSL groups and concluding with a single-elimination playoff bracket. Unlike the 2020 edition of the tournament which experimented with an MR12 ruleset, Gamers Without Borders 2.0 will use the classic, MR15 ruleset.

Aside from the NIP and mousesports, Brazilian side MIBR, as well as fan favorites FaZe and Dignitas will compete at the tournament.

The group stage draw is available below:

The group stage will take place over the first four days, June 22-25, followed by the playoffs. Aside from the competition, the broadcast will also include exhibition matches and show segments.

The charity prize pool, which the teams will distribute based on their placings:

1. $600,000
2. $300,000
3-4. $150,000
3-4. $150,000
5-6. $100,000
5-6. $100,000
7-8. $50,000
7-8. $50,000
