We are delighted to inform you that the Centre for Intellectual Property Research and Advocacy (CIPRA) of Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad is organizing Beyond Logos- A Workshop on Navigating the Trademark Landscape- an online workshop on the basics of Trademark and its filing, in collaboration with IP Press on the 23^rd and 24^th of February, 2024.

About the Event

This is an online workshop on the theoretical and filing aspects of Trademark, followed by a competition on “Replying to Objections in Trademark Filing.” The Workshop will be led by industry experts and offer practical insights that enable participants to deepen their understanding of the procedures behind filing for a trademark. It will delve into the basics of trademark, and how trademark filing offers a robust shield against infringement, empowering the owners to take legal action against unauthorized trademark use. The workshop will present itself as a foundation for the competition to follow, guiding the students with the required knowledge for the competition.

During the workshop, the participants will gain an understanding of the paramount importance of safeguarding a brand’s identity and ensuring the distinctiveness of the products and services in today’s competitive market. Participants will receive guided instruction on the intricate aspects of trademark filing, encompassing step-by-step procedures and requirements for successful registration, with a particular emphasis on navigating and responding to objections raised by the trademark registry.

By the end of this workshop, the participants will be equipped with the knowledge regarding trademarks in general and the skills necessary to navigate the complexities of trademark filing and reply to objections, which will be put to the test in the competition.

The Workshop is divided into two sessions consisting of a total of four modules:

DAY 1: 23.02.2024

SESSION 1: By Mr. Debjyoti Sarkar, Advocate, S. Majumdar and Co.

(11:00 am to 12:30 pm), consisting of

• Module 1:Introduction and Overview of Trademarks
• Module 2: Theoretical Foundations
• Module 3: Celebrity Trademarks

SESSION 2: By Ms. Sayani Roy, Advocate, S. Majumdar and Co.

(02:00 pm to 03:30 pm), consisting of

• Module 4: Filing Process

DAY 2: 24.02.2024

• Assessment: Online Trademark Filing Competition- Drafting a reply to the examination report provided to the participants
