Austrian Airlines is planned to offer over 1,300 flights per week to about 110 key European and long-haul destinations, owing to an expansion in capacity to accommodate pent-up demand in major tourism markets. As travel restrictions loosen across Europe, the spring and summer seasons will witness an increase in frequency and the debut of new routes in an effort to accommodate pent-up demand.
The country’s flag airline has revived all of its planes in an effort to expand its service to popular leisure locations around Europe. Flights to warm and sunny destinations have been in particularly high demand for the airline. Bookings for the forthcoming months have increased in destinations such as Mauritius, Maldives and Cancun, particularly during the Easter holidays in April. Long-haul locations like Bangkok have also been in high demand after Thailand eased travel rules ahead of the popular spring season.
“With 36 destinations in the Mediterranean, the summer focus within Europe is clearly on touristic destinations. The offer on short and medium-haul routes will be significantly expanded compared to last year. We will increase capacity by 12 aircraft,” says Michael Trestl, CCO.
Route Possibilities are Boosted by Strong Transatlantic Demand
Austrian Airlines’ transatlantic flights are likewise in high demand. From May, the airline will operate up to 33 weekly direct flights to the United States, servicing Chicago, Washington, and New York City at both JFK and Newark (EWR) on a daily basis.
