Abstract – In this study, we explored how teachers from Bangladesh experienced challenges of online assessment during the pandemic situation due to COVID-19. An exploratory qualitative study was applied to collect data through semi-structured interviews with six secondary school teachers. This study highlighted the importance of assessment in online classes and guided teachers to find effective online teaching pedagogy to enable student learning. However, the findings of this study showed that due to a lack of prior training and previous experience, teachers found it difficult to assess and give feedback on learning outcomes digitally and ensure students’ active participation in the classes. Students’ lack of academic honesty was identified as one of the key challenges to ensuring reliability in online assessment. Apart from improving technological advancement, the results of this study suggest that a collaborative working environment between teachers, students, and parents can ensure reliability in online assessment.
