The Apex Legends player count on Steam in 2023 might surprise you.
After a disappointing summer, Apex Legends delivered two fun, well-received seasons to close out 2023. With a Fuse Heirloom in Season 18, new Legend Conduit in Season 19, and several Collection Events, the Battle Royale bounced back in a big way. Plus, a major collaboration with Post Malone brought new skins, rewards, and beloved LTM, Three Strikes, to the game.
Despite the popular additions to Apex Legends, though, it seems the player count on Steam is reaching new lows.

The Apex Legends player count has dropped 20% from November to December 2023 on Steam. According to the Apex Legends Steam Charts, the peak player count in December is down over 90,000 players in the last thirty days.
To make matters worse, the current player count on Steam dropped just below 50% from February’s peak of 624,473 players. In fact, the numbers for December are lower than both June and July, arguably the two slowest months for the Battle Royale.
Of course it is hard to pinpoint exactly why the player count is struggling on Steam, but it could be from the abundance of cheaters on PC. Just recently, former professional Apex Legends player, HisWattson, had a hacker crash his entire game after killing him in Ranked.
Players could also be frustrated with the lack of new content in December 2023. The developers made the controversial move to not bring back fan-favorite LTM, Winter Express, this holiday season, and the numbers show just how displeased the community was with the decision.
Despite the low numbers on Steam, the total Apex Legends player count for December 2023 reached an average of over 64 million players, per ActivePlayer. The number is actually the highest player count for the Battle Royale since September.
With Apex Legends Season 20 approaching in the new year, we expect both the total and Steam player counts to rise as fans across the world explore whatever changes Respawn Entertainment has in store.
