American Airlines announces 14 new Texas-based routes

Date:

American Airlines has announced a collection of 14 new routes that will be operated from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) in Texas. Four of these new routes will be to international destinations, which are scheduled to commence “just in time for planning winter getaways,” according to American Airlines.

Earlier this year, the carrier announced in March that it was adding “10 new, returning and seasonal routes to Texas’ capital city.” The airline is “eager to offer” its customers more opportunities to travel and visit family, friends and colleagues, according to Brian Znotins, American’s Vice President of Network Planning. Mr Znotins went on to add that American Airlines “customers have spoken: they want more.”

Fast forward three months, the US airline now plans to add a further 14 routes on top of the 10 routes announced in March. Over the course of September, October and November, American Airlines will commence flights to ten domestic destinations from Austin Airport.

In a company statement, the Mayor of Texas, Steve Adler stated that “For the past 40 years, American Airlines has connected Austin and Central Texas with the world.” The Mayor of Texas added that the state “couldn’t be happier” with these new routes and is looking forward to continueing its “successful partnership with American for many more years to come.”

The airline plans to operate a three-times daily service to El Paso (ELP), Texas in addition to a twice-daily service to cities such as Cincinnati; Indianapolis; Kansas City, Missouri and St. Louis (STL). American Airlines also confirmed that it will operate daily flights to Jacksonville, Florida; Reno (RNO), Nevada; San Juan (SJU), Puerto Rico; Oklahoma City (OKC) and Tulsa (TUL), Oklahoma.

In a company statement, American’s Chief Customer Officer, Alison Taylor said “Austin is an increasingly important market for both our leisure and business customers, and we will continue to deliver our world-class customer service as the market expands.”

In addition to the ten domestic routes, American Airlines has stated that it plans to launch four international routes from Austin later this winter to destinations such as Cancun and Puerto Vallarta, in Mexico; Liberia in Costa Rica and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, with frequencies varying between three-times and four-times-weekly.
