April 19, 2021 – Masterpiece Studio (formerly MasterpieceVR), has recently announced the release of Masterpiece Studio Pro, a complete virtual reality (VR) 3D creative suite that enables creative professionals without 3D modeling experience to create usable 3D content for animation, gaming, and more.

“VR has shown promise in revolutionizing 3D content creation by making it fast, easy, and enjoyable, but this was never fully realized because there were always missing gaps in the pipeline,” said Jonathan Gagne, CEO at Masterpiece Studio. “Masterpiece Studio Pro is an industry milestone that uses VR and machine learning to remove the missing gaps to create production-ready 3D assets.”

According to the company, these missing gaps include the fact that when creating 3D content using VR tools, artists and creators could not use this content in the real world without spending additional time cleaning it up in multiple desktop programs.

“One thing that Masterpiece Studio Pro has done for me as an independent artist and creative is opened up the potential to create things that I could not have ever made or had the resources or time to create,” commented Dylan Sisson, Digital Artist at Pixar Animation Studios. “Just by being able to take my 2D skillset, directly apply it in 3D, and then take those 3D assets to do something like 3D print is such a fluid and immediate process.”

Masterpiece Studio noted that following the innovation of rigging and skinning for VR with its Masterpiece Motion platform, Masterpiece Studio Pro now streamlines 3D for creatives by simplifying mesh optimization, Auto UV, retopology, and texture painting – all in one immersive suite.

“VR content creation is a whole new way of creating CG animation to keep up with audience demand and not sacrifice quality,” added Tom Box, Co-founder, Blue Zoo Animation. “Discovering tools like Masterpiece Studio Pro and seeing how they can be combined to create powerful new workflows has shown us that breaking free of the traditional 2D input and output devices … can vastly speed up the creative process both in the speed of team communication and speed of which ideas can be explored and developed.”

Masterpiece Studio Pro’s creative suite includes all the features and creation tools of the original, MasterpieceVR and Motion apps, with the addition of layers, retopology tools for making models production-ready, auto UV, and texture painting, as well as blend shapes for creating facial animations.

Furthermore, Masterpiece Studio Pro can export in formats that are compatible with most 3D programs, including 3DS Max, Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter, Marmoset, Blender, Medium by Adobe, Tvori, and Gravity Sketch, with the company stating that more programs will be announced in the future.

Masterpiece Studio Pro is available for HTC, Oculus, Valve and Window Mix Reality headsets. For more information on Masterpiece Studio and its VR creation platforms, please visit the company’s website.

Oddworld: Soulstorm – How To Beat The Last Boss | Storm of Souls Guide

Avatar

Published

on

The final boss of Oddworld: Soulstorm is a huge pain if you don’t go in prepared. The final level is just one long slog — you have to disable five giant pumps by completing different puzzles, while escaping gun-toting Sligs and saving the last Mudokons. The final boss itself isn’t really a new enemy. Instead, you’ll have to deal with three waves of enemies.

And it doesn’t have to be hard. We’ve found the ideal way to defeat the final series of fights. There’s another mini-boss along the way that’s much easier — about halfway through the level, you’ll encounter the “Eye” in a floating area packed with patrolling Sligs. To defeat the eye, you need to lure its gaze to the floating anti-possession mines. Destroy all the floating mines, then you can possess the triangle lock to disable it for good.

It isn’t easy, but the final challenge can be a true nightmare. Here are the items you need to craft to make this final battle so much easier.

The last boss of Oddworld: Soulstorm is a gauntlet of mines, Sligs, and Mama Slig tanks. There are three phases, and if you die, you’ll have to restart from the very beginning. Before going into this battle, you’ll want to collect all the items and crafting supplies you can.

  • Recommended Inventory:
    • x3 Shrykull Blasts
    • Smoke Screens
    • Incendiary Bombs

You’ll want as many as you can carry of the Smoke Screens and fire brew bombs. You absolutely, absolutely need three Shrykull charges. If you don’t, the fight will be much, much more difficult. You can get x5 Shrykull blasts by the time you reach the final boss, so as long as you don’t waste two during the rest of the level and save all the Mudokons you encounter, you’ll be okay.

Activating The Three Eyes

Inside the giant brewery machine, you’ll need to activate the Work Wheel to initiate each phase. There are three phases. Make sure to save the three Mudokon workers before turning the wheel, or they will die.

Phase 1: Starts with a wave of Sligs. Immediately use your Shrykull power to wipe them out. That’s followed by mines — three sets of mines will sweep across the platform. Stand in the center and double-jump to avoid them. The phase ends with another group of Sligs — again, use Shrykull.

Phase 2: To initiate Phase 2, you need to turn the work wheel again. Be prepared — a mine will immediately fly toward Abe after finishing the work wheel turn. Be ready to jump out of the way immediately or you’ll get exploded. The mines are faster, but if you double-jump while standing in the center, this part is easy. There are two mine sequences, and one Slig reinforcement sequence. Again, use your third Shrykull.

Phase 3: The final phase is much harder than the others. After turning the work wheel, two Mama Slig tanks will appear on both sides of Abe. The rockets they fire are slightly weaker than normal, so Abe can actually survive a hit.

You have to destroy them the same way you did on the train level. But, this time you’ve got items to make things much easier. Immediately throw down a Smoke Screen on both side so the Mama Sligs can’t see you — then throw fire bombs like mad. You need to destroy all the explosive crates underneath each Mama Slig.

Using smoke and fire bombs makes this battle so, so much easier. Don’t get too close to the Mama Slig legs or you’ll be launched backwards. Lay down a thick fog of smoke so you can safely throw those firebombs. Alternatively, you can use the flamethrower and Brew bottles to spread flames. That’s only in the event of an emergency.

Making liberal use of Smoke Screens is a game-changer in this fight. If you go in prepared, you’ll always be able to win. The Mama Sligs are useless. And sadly, the Shrykull ability doesn’t work on the Mama Sligs! The only way to win is by burning the explosive crates. And we can do that easily when we’re hidden in smoke.

Yoko Taro Working As Creative Director on New Title With Square Enix

Avatar

It sounds extremely weird, and very Yoko Taro.

NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139_03

Yoko Taro is working with Square Enix as the creative director on a brand new title, according to Square Enix producer Yosuke Saito. The news came during the first official NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… live stream (via Gematsu).

Specific details regarding the game were not announced, but the game will be a digital-only smaller title, though Square hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a special physical edition. Taro described the game as “off-beat” and “unusual,” saying it’s something he has “no idea how to explain or sell.” He wants people to play but has no idea how to make them do so.

Saito was more upbeat about the game, describing it as “nostalgic and new” and claiming that staff at the company believes it will sell well. Monthly updates on the status of the title were discussed as a possibility, and updates were promised when they became available, with the next few days listed as a possibility for the reveal of more information.

All of this sounds very interesting and more than a little weird…which makes sense for a Yoko Taro game. Taro has been responsible for some of the more interesting stories in games, so whatever this new project is, we hope its just as wild and unique as the rest of his work.

Oddworld: Soulstorm – How To Get The Best Ending | Good Quarma Guide

Avatar

Published

on

There are two endings in Oddworld: Soulstorm — a bad ending, and a good ending. Getting the bad ending is easy, and getting the good ending is going to take a whole lot of work. Thankfully, this game isn’t as demanding as the original Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssey. In the first game of the series, you had to save all your buddies (enslaved creatures called Mudokons) to earn the good ending. This time around, you “only” need to save 80% of them.

Mudokons are the alien slaves you’re trying to rescue in Oddworld: Soulstorm — and they’re almost all optional. If you only save the Mudokons that are required, you’ll be far, far below the 80% you need for the good ending. Mudokons can be hidden in secret areas, or perfectly easy to find — but extremely difficult to rescue. There are sections that are simple platforming challenges for ABe

How To Get The Good Ending

The earn the good ending in Oddworld: Soulstorm, you need to score a majority of Good Quarma ranks for each level. You’ll be able to see your Quarma in the Level Select menu — under each level, you’ll see a red or blue icon. A red icon signifies Bad Quarma, and a blue icon signifies Good Quarma. It’s okay to get several Bad Quarma ranks — you don’t need all Good Quarma to get the best ending.

I was able to get the Good Ending with three Bad Quarma ranks. So, you absolutely don’t need to replay every level to get Good Quarma. To get Good Quarma, you mostly need to rescue Mudokons.

  • How do you get Good Quarma?
    • You need to rescue at least 80% of the Mudokons in a level.

You also need to make sure a Platinum Badge level of Mudokons survive the three Ladder Defense sections. During the Ladder Defenses, no more than 50 Mudokons can be killed. There’s no reason to go for 100% — and these sections are hard, so you’re bound to lose a few of them.

Abe can kill as many Slig security guards as he wants. Killing Sligs does not count against your Quarma — it’s all about rescuing as many Mudokons as possible. Check out the guides for each level above to make saving the last of the Mudokons easier. Some levels require you to find secret areas where more Mudokons are hiding.

What Happens In The Good Ending?

In the Good Ending, Abe and friends successfully add the cure to the Soulstorm Brewery and automatically pump the safe version to factories all across Oddworld — saving the Mudokons from eternal slavery.

Molluck the Glukkon arrives at Soulstorm Brewery with his Security Chief Slig, who infiltrates the building and spies on a meeting between the Brewmaster, Morguer and Aslik — three powerful Glukkons. The Sligs turn on their bosses, blasting the three leaders after Molluck promises to pay them off.

The scene cuts to a tranquil field where the Mudokons have safely escaped to. The armies of the Magog Cartel aren’t chasing them — and thanks to the stupidity of the Glukkons, they aren’t even aware Abe has escaped, or that the cure is being distributed to every Mudokon on the continent. Nobody is chasing them. They’re truly free!

But, Abe finally reveals what he learned from the Keeper. The original Mudokon Queen is still alive — and she’s living richly in the Glukkon capitol city. As if things weren’t bad enough for Abe, now they’ll have to search for answers in the heart of the most dangerous place for any Mudokon.
