Wuhan will become one of the Chinese cities in the “City Tour” to host the 2021 League of Legends World Championships (Worlds 2021), the city’s mayor unveiled on Wednesday at a ceremony co-hosted by esports media company People Esports and the Wuhan government .
More than a hundred Chinese esports executives, experts, and governmental officers attended the event, including Wuhan Mayor Yongwen Chen, and Jizhong Wei, vice president of Global Esports Federation (GEF) and honorary life vice president of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
During the “China Esports Annual Ceremony,” Chen gave a speech and revealed news about Wuhan’s involvement in the LOL world championships.
“We will build Wuhan as the new ‘high ground’ of esports competitions, try to successfully run the League of Legends World Championships, and import more international esports tournaments in the city,” Chen said.
Riot Games and TJ Sports have not officially announced the actual hosting cities for Worlds 2021. The two only confirmed that the Chinese city of Shenzhen will host the grand final of Worlds 2021. In previous Worlds competitions, the city tour featured six cities.
