The West Virginia Office of Medical Cannabis began scoring medical cannabis cultivation applications this week, according to a MetroNews report.

The state will ultimately issue licenses for 10 cultivators, 10 processors and up to 100 dispensaries, and regulators will begin evaluating processor and dispensary applications after considering cultivation applicants, the news outlet reported.

In scoring the applications, the West Virginia Office of Medical Cannabis is evaluating business details such as employee qualifications and education, security plans, and plans for safety processes when growing, processing and dispensing cannabis, according to MetroNews.

Five outside scorers have been brought in to assist with the application review process, the news outlet reported.

West Virginia has also launched physician registration, and the state has not placed a limit on the number of physicians that can recommend medical cannabis to patients, MetroNews reported.
