Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, has said that Xbox intends on making various Activision Blizzard titles available on Game Pass once the acquisition of Activision has been completed. These titles include the likes of Overwatch, Diablo, and Call of Duty.
“Subscription services like Game Pass make gaming more affordable and help players from all over the world find their next favorite game”, Spencer said in a new blog đăng bài. He goes on to state that Xbox “intend to make Activision Blizzard’s much-loved library of games – including Overwatch, Diablo and Call of Duty – available in Game Pass and to grow those gaming communities”.
Although huge titles such as Call of Duty and Overwatch will likely be made available via Xbox Game Pass, Spencer did reaffirm to fans that they are committed to making the same version of Call of Duty available on PlayStation on the same day the game launches elsewhere. So, regardless of whether or not Call of Duty titles launch on Game Pass on day one, they will still be available to purchase on PlayStation consoles.
Microsoft and Xbox remain committed to ensuring people can play with each other, regardless of their platform. “We know players benefit from this approach because we’ve done it with Minecraft, which continues to be available on multiple platforms and has expanded to even more since Mojang joined Microsoft in 2014”, Spencer said.
It’s unclear exactly when Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard will be completed, as it is still going through strict reviews from regulators all over the world. Just recently, it was confirmed that the United Kingdom’s competition regulators are recommending the deal go through an “in-depth investigation”. However, Spencer also expressed in a new blog post that Microsoft will continue to engage with regulators with a spirit of transparency and openness as they review the acquisition. Spencer says that they “respect and welcome the hard questions that are being asked”.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II will launch on October 28th, but don’t expect it to launch on Xbox Game Pass on day one, as the acquisition is still in the review stages.
