The homes of the future: smart, self-sufficient and virus proof

Date:

An Australian start-up company designs and builds smart, energy self-sufficient homes that protect inhabitants from all sorts of viruses and bacteria: will these be the homes of the future?

The Covid-19 pandemic has also had a strong impact on the real estate sector. Between lockdowns and restrictive measures, many of us were forced to stay indoors for days on end. During the home isolation, we discovered that our homes (perhaps) are not very suitable for the life we will lead in the coming years. In many flats there are obvious architectural barriers, poorly lit rooms, surfaces that are difficult to disinfect and very polluting heating systems. Not to mention all the problems of digital connectivity and ‘domestic tranquillity’ linked to smartworking. In short: over the last twelve months we have realised that the homes of the future will have to be very different from the ones we live in today. To get an idea of what our homes will look like in a few decades, we can take a look at the innovative projects of Australian company Haus. This company specialises in the construction of smart, energy self-sufficient and virus and bacteria-proof residential structures.

Haus designs “virus-proof” homes of the future

The Haus houses are a real concentration of technology. They are prefabricated modules that are “printed” three-dimensionally. This significantly reduces construction time and costs: the houses are delivered as turnkey projects, fully furnished and ready for occupancy. There is also no need for foundations or special installation processes. According to the Australian designers, the housing modules can simply be “laid” on any flat, stable ground. Another special feature is that the Haus houses are totally self-sufficient in energy. They do not need to be connected to the electricity, water or sewage networks because they are equipped with renewable energy generators (wind, sun, heat) and state-of-the-art waste disposal systems. There is also an air purification system capable of eliminating 99% of viruses and bacteria inside and outside the home. All the functions of the house can be conveniently managed through a smartphone app: if this is not the house of the future, it certainly looks a lot like it!
