A dilapidated deceased estate in Brisbane has sold under the hammer for $1.45 million despite the existing dwelling being “non-habitable”.
But the property at 49 Deighton Rd in Dutton Park is not the first clanger to sell on the same street.
In 2015, a dump labelled ‘Australia’s Worst House’ sold for $668,000 — a whopping $168,000 over reserve.
And that was five years before the Covid-19 property boom in prices.
The agent behind the marketing for the derelict Queenslander opted against using any fluffy adjectives or filtered photos to describe the uninhabitable cottage, which was riddled with termites and rotting wood.

Describing it as well beyond “fixer-upper” status”, the agent simply noted that “there is no way to sugar-coat this”.
“If someone is looking for the worst house on the best street, this is really as bad as it gets,” the agent said at the time.
Another clanger at 22 Deighton Rd sold for $665,000 – almost a year before the pandemic kicked into high gear.
Sold on behalf of the Public Trustee, the “dilapidated, circa 1920 home” still had “VJ interiors, high ceilings, ornate timber breezeways and wide pine flooring but the overall condition and foundations left a lot to be desired.
No inspections were allowed at the property, with the property sold sight unseen.
But the buyer, with the help of her builder father, was able to transform the house into a winner after a $400,000-plus renovation.
It was valued at $1.25 million in 2022.
Now another Deighton Rd dump could soon be set for a much-needed makeover, with 49 Deighton Rd selling under the hammer on November 10.
Marketed by Ray White Inner Brisbane agent Brad Butson, the property was described as an “exceptional development opportunity in the heart of Dutton Park”.
“The current structure is non-habitable but worry not as plans are being explored for the house to be removed, providing you with an unobstructed canvas to unleash your architectural creativity,” the listing said.
But the “rare” double block boasts city vistas and encompasses a 810sq m block.
