Marvel Realm of Champions is being shut down

Marvel Realm of Champions is being shut down less than two years since the game officially launched. The superhero mobile MOBA  will be taken offline on March 31, 2022, developer Kabam confirmed in an official statement. As a result, Marvel Realm of Champions has been removed from both the App Store for iOS and the Google Play Store for Android. Meanwhile, those who have the game downloaded won’t be able to make in-app purchases. Kabam hasn’t stated why Realm is shutting down, however this is likely due to dwindling player numbers and unsuccessful attempts at acquiring new users. For those who never Marvel Realm of Champions, it served as a streamlined alternative to genre mainstays such as League of Legends and Dota 2. You could create you own character, belonging to one of the many character-themed factions. While it certainly had some interesting ideas, the execution simply wasn’t there at launch. As Nick pointed out in his review, there wasn’t enough content or scope for strategy to entice MOBA fans. Meanwhile, the free-to-play game was dragged down by its grindy loot and progression mechanics. It’s not all doom and gloom for Kabam. The studio’s mobile fighting hit, Marvel Contest of Champions, is still going strong with plenty planned for 2022. Earlier this year it introduced X-Men antagonist, Toad, as a new playable villain. Realm will continue to be online until March 31st. During that time, unreleased content will become available with a higher currency earn rate, allowing fans to access as much of the game before it’s gone for good. Here’s what the team had to say, signing of their work on Realm of Champions: This game was a labor of love for us. We aren’t just game makers, we’re Marvel fans. When we ventured out to make a game where we could tell a new epic Marvel tale and give you the ability to create your own Marvel Champion, we were more than a little thrilled. From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank each and every one of you for joining us on this journey. We hope to see you in The Contest. Source: Marvel Realm of Champions
