The System Shock games have had a storied legacy in the gaming industry. The shooter/RPG hybrids have a dedicated following, but it seems like fans of the franchise will have to wait much longer to see a new installment. In a recent interview with Warren Spector via VentureBeat, the original creator of Deux Ex, it was revealed that System Shock 3 has not been in development with OtherSide Entertainment since 2019.
Spector, alongside Game Designer Paul Neurath, originally announced System Shock 3 back in 2015 as part of OtherSide Entertainment. Nightdive Studios bought the rights to the series from Star Insurance, and then gave OtherSide Entertainment permission to make the sequel. In 2017, Starbreeze Studios announced its intention to publish the game on PC and consoles.
A troubling development history for System Shock 3
Unfortunately, the development of the title has been troubled since that point. After showing off some brief media for the game in 2019, news arrived that se...
Deus Ex--and more importantly, Epic Mickey--creator Warren Spector has announced that he is working on "a completely new intellectual property" at his studio OtherSide Entertainment.
"It feels great to be working with a talented team on a new title and new IP," Spector said of the new project. "Fans of my work already know what to expect: an immersive world and engaging narrative that players will directly impact through their choices and playstyles. We are still in early development and are looking forward to sharing more information soon!"
While Spector is keeping quiet on what the game will be about, some key art for it was revealed and shows off a concept that looks like Waterworld meets The Lord of the Rings:

Veteran game producer Jeff Goodsill will oversee the production of Spector's game and other unannounced titles in development, as well as help grow Otherside. The studio is also currently working on System Shock 3, although development on that title has been turbulent since it was first announced in 2015.
System Shock 3's original developer Starbreeze faced financial difficulties that resulted in Otherside taking over completely, and in 2020 it was announced that Chinese gaming company Tencent would be "taking the System Shock franchise forward" with Spector still involved in an unknown capacity.
A new trailer for the chapter shows both new characters, with Sadako climbing out of her well to terrorise the survivors of Dead By Daylight. In keeping with the game's naming conventions, Sadako will be known in-game as The Onryō, after a Japanese term meaning "vengeful spirit."
Yoichi Asakawa, a character who appeared in the first two Japanese Ring films as a young boy with psychic abilities, is the Ringu installment's new Survivor. Dead By Daylight's version of the character shows Yoichi all grown up, as the only hero of the Ring films to have faced Sadako and made it out alive. In a surprising move for the franchise, the continuation of Yoichi's story will happen exclusively in-game.
The Ringu update sees Dead By Daylight exploring new territory, departing from the classic slasher films it was originally inspired by to explore a different style of horror. "Ringu introduces psychological horror to our game, which is very different from the slasher style our fans are used to," explains creative director Dave Richard. "They can expect Sadako to come with creepy and surprising gameplay mechanics that are not found in other Killers. Survivors beware, she will freak you out!"
Overkill has released a new Payday 2 update for PC. Patch 216.3 is now available to download and is required in order to play co-op heists online. All round, it’s pretty minor update. Weighing in at just over 30MB, the heisters have been busy shredding tinsel now that the festive period is over. The game’s developers confirmed that 216.3 doesn’t include any new Payday 2 content, fixes, or balancing tweaks. Here’s a quick overview of what’s changed: The heists Breakin’ Feds, Hoxton Breakout, and Buluc’s Mansion have now returned to normal. Bulldozers and Cloakers have (for the most part) hung up their Santa hats in wait for next year. As the weather starts to slowly turn warmer to more slush, the fine white now to make snowballs is sadly no longer available. As Jimmy threw out the stash that I saved in the fridge to make room for more booze, we will have to wait until next winter for another snowball fight. Of course, the Leech Perk Deck is will remain available as will “Bulbous Bauble” and the “Lightbringer” weapon charms with their associated achievements. The Winter Ghosts Tailor Pack and all its content will remain available. When is Payday 3 coming out? Payday 3 will be coming to PC and consoles in 2023, it has been announced. Payday creators Starbreeze confirmed that the sequel is back on track following a landmark €50m publishing deal with Koch Media. Koch and Starbreeze didn’t specify which platforms we’ll see Payday 3 launch on though it’s safe to assume the heist sim will appear on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The announcement came tagged with our first look at Payday 3 – a new piece of concept art. Much like Payday 2, the sequel will embody its games as a service approach to dishing out regular new content. Having originally launched in 2013, Payday 2 continues to enjoy a thriving fanbase with dozens of DLC packs having been released featuring new levels, characters, weapons, and cosmetics. Source: Steam
