Believe it or not, there are some people out there who haven’t yet picked up a PlayStation 5 (and not just because they’re still a nightmare to get hold of). Alex Olney from our sister site, Nintendo Life, is one of these misguided souls. He claims to not need one seeing as a lot of first-party PlayStation exclusives are still coming to the PS4, but that won’t stop Video Editor Aaron from trying to win Alex over.
From the haptic and adaptive wonders of the PS5 DualSense controller, to the incredibly immersive experience PSVR2 is expected to offer players later this year, no area is off limits when trying to convince this Nintendo die-hard why he should purchase Sony’s next-gen console. Similarly, Alex does his best to convince Aaron to sign up to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription – you can find a link to that video debate in the description for this one.
Coming from Night Dive Studios, Shadow Man Remastered has done the rounds on PC for some time, with the Steam reviews that it's received over the course of the last year or so sitting pretty on the Overwhelmingly Positive front. Now that same game hits Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PS5, giving console players the chance to stalk all evil.
YIIK: A Post-Modern RPG (pronounced Y-2-K) is a game you probably haven't thought about in a while, and for good reason. It wasn't particularly good when it launched for PlayStation 4 at the very start of 2019, awarded a 5/10 in our review. However, it looks like developer Ackkstudios is taking another stab at things with a complete overhaul of the game arriving later this year.
This will be a free update that "reimagines the mind-bending Japanese-style role-playing game with transformative improvements", dubbed YIIK I.V. The cutscenes have been reimagined, bringing a different set of eyes to the experience to make it "the most compelling and accessible version to date". Then there's new story content that introduces new characters, bosses, dungeons, and more opportunities to spend time with the supporting cast.
If complex, turn-based tactical SRPGs are your thing, then Battle Brothers will be right up your street. Add in a sprinkling of the fantasy, a dash of medieval combat, and a whole dollop of the jeopardy that permadeath brings, and this one looks like a real goodie.
Did you forget that Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is being ported to PlayStation 4 in just a couple of months? Well now you've been reminded. The stylish brawler has a new short but sweet trailer, which, to be honest, has sparked a surprising amount of hype within us.
To be fair though, that hype is built on the fact that we thoroughly enjoyed the original PS3 release. Ultimax is an incredibly fun fighting game, featuring a diverse character roster and a load of different gameplay modes. It's a real shame, however, that Ultimax won't have rollback netcode — at least not at launch.
Deep Rock Galactic was already popular before it came to PlayStation 5 and PS4 — and in turn PS Plus — at the start of this month, but the game's inclusion in Sony's subscription service has added so many new miners that it has reached a new milestone. More than 10 million players have now got to work with a pickaxe since the title's initial release in 2018, and a whopping six million of them are already playing on PS5 and PS4. That's the power of PS Plus.
Developer Ghost Ship Games shared the news in a press release, which also noted the inclusion of a free Battle Pass for players to work through and the recognition the game received throughout 2021. "The way Deep Rock Galactic has always been developed is directly with the community," said Ghost Ship Games CEO Søren Lundgaard. "We are a small team, undertaking a huge console launch so it is amazing to have the community working with us every step of the way, and we can't wait to show off what we are going to give back to them in Season 02 this Spring!"
