Lost Ark Sorceress Guide: Best Builds, Skills, And Engravings

The most recent addition to Lost Ark's roster of classes in the Korean version, the Sorceress, was included at launch for players of Smilegate's free-to-play MMORPG in the West. As such, she's been a popular pick for new players looking for a casting-based entry point into the world of Arkesia. She's a hard-hitting DPS that fulfills the fantasy of a spell-slinging glass cannon, a class that lacks defense but packs a huge punch to make up for it.

There are two main ways to build a Sorceress for PVE, each defined by the class' two class-specific engravings. One focuses on delivering some truly massive damage during very specific burst windows (and as a result requires more precise timing and coordination) while the other offers more steady, consistent damage at the cost of forgoing a key Sorceress ability--Arcane Rupture. Figuring out which build to strive for can be a challenge, so this guide will dive into what each class engraving does, which skills complement those engravings, and how to play each build effectively.

Sorceress Igniter Build

An Igniter Sorceress is all about dealing huge amounts of damage in a small window.

If you want to deal as much damage as possible in a small window of time, this is the Sorceress build for you. Revolving around the Igniter class engraving, this build focuses on amping up the class' Arcane Rupture identity ability. As you deal damage, the class identity gauge fills, allowing you to activate Arcane Rupture, boosting damage dealt and reducing skill cooldown times. If activated when the identity gauge is at 100%, this ability becomes even more powerful.

When playing an Igniter Sorceress, you'll want to wait to use Arcane Rupture when it's gauge is at 100% to maximize damage, as your Igniter engraving will further reduce ability cooldowns and increase the crit rate and crit damage of your abilities. You'll want to be using your hardest hitting skills (which also have the longest cooldowns) in conjunction with Arcane Rupture to deal massive amounts of damage. The only downside is your burst windows will often be small depending on the encounter, and should you happen to miss your target, you'll be contributing little to your party's success.

If you're up for a high-risk, high-reward playstyle, below are some of the skills and their corresponding Tripods you'll want to consider using for an Igniter Sorceress. Aside from some key abilities like Doomsday, Explosion, and Punishing Strike, feel free to experiment with whatever abilities fit your playstyle. When it comes to stat priority for gear, focus on accumulating as much Specialization as possible, followed by Crit and Swiftness. You'll want to equip the Igniter engraving (obviously) as well as All-Out Attack (which boosts casting or holding skills) or Grudge (a huge boost to damage dealt at the cost of receiving more damage) to further increase your damage output. Note that upon hitting level 50 you likely won't have all the skill points you need to unlock all three Tripods for each of your selected abilities, so focus first on maxing out your hardest-hitting skills (like Doomsday and Explosion) and go from there.

  • Doomsday - Tripod 1: Ignition, Tripod 2: Asteroid, Tripod 3: Magick Amplification
  • Explosion - Tripod 1: Ignite, Tripod 2: Weakpoint Detection, Tripod 3: Magick Amplification
  • Blaze - Tripod 1: Damage Amplification, Tripod 2: Charged Flame, Tripod 3: Undying Flame
  • Rime Arrow - Tripod 1: Enlightenment, Tripod 2: Piercing Strike, Tripod 3: Ice Pick
  • Esoteric Reaction - Tripod 1: Quick Prep, Tripod 2: Enhanced Strike, Tripod 3: Stabilized Crystal
  • Punishing Strike - Tripod 1: Mind Enhancement, Tripod 2: Electric Discharge, Tripod 3: Magick Amplification
  • Frost's Call - Tripod 1: Enlightenment, Tripod 2: Rule Enhancement, Tripod 3: Enhanced Strike
  • Squall - Tripod 1: Quick Preparation, Tripod 2: Agile Cast, Tripod 3: Personal Preference

Sorceress Reflux Build

The Reflux Sorceress deals steady damage without having to worry about Arcane Rupture.

Playing a Reflux Sorceress is the opposite of the Igniter playstyle. Instead of saving all of your cooldowns for specific burst windows, you'll be dishing out continual and steady damage throughout the duration of any encounter. While a downside of going the Reflux route is you won't be engaging with your class's Arcane Rupture ability (the Reflux engraving disables it), you do get the added benefit of a small boost to your damage and cooldown reduction at all times. Since you don't have to worry about saving your identity gauge to activate Arcane Torrent, you can also use your Blink ability to your heart's content, giving you more survivability and more options for getting out of harm's way. This is by far an easier playstyle and one more suited for players new to the game and the class.

While many of the skills and engravings you'll be using as a Reflux build are the same as the Igniter, you'll want to change your Tripods away from anything that helps increase your identity gauge and instead prioritize ones that increase damage and crit chance. Instead of focusing primarily on Specialization stats-wise, you'll want to go after Crit first and foremost, with Swiftness as a second priority. When it comes to engravings, make sure to level up the Reflux engraving as quickly as you can and equip it. Like the Igniter, you'll want to grab Grudge as well for a solid damage boost. If you need a little extra crit, Precision Dagger is a solid choice, as is Master of Strikes, which boosts the damage of skills that don't benefit from "front" or "back" attacks (which applies to most Sorceress skills).

  • Blaze - Tripod 1: Damage Amplification, Tripod 2: Flame Explosion, Tripod 3: Undying Flame
  • Elgian's Touch - Tripod 1: Quick Prep, Tripod 2: Swift Footwork, Tripod 3: Personal Preference
  • Seraphic Hail - Tripod 1: Quick Prep, Tripod 2: Evolved Hail, Tripod 3: Red Hail
  • Reverse Gravity - Tripod 1: Wide Angle, Tripod 2: Lava Area, Tripod 3: Weakpoint Detection
  • Punishing Strike - Tripod 1: Mind Enhancement, Tripod 2: Unavoidable Fate, Tripod 3: Magick Amplification
  • Esoteric Reaction - Tripod 1: Quick Preparation, Enhanced Strike, Stabilized Crystal
  • Frost's Call - Tripod 1: Enlightenment, Tripod 2: Rule Enhancement, Tripod 3: Enhanced Strike
  • Rime Arrow - Tripod 1: Quick Preparation, Tripod 2: Piercing Strike, Tripod 3: Ice Pick

Awakening Skills

When it comes to Sorceress' two Awakening skills, the choice is up to you.

Sorceress has two Awakening skills to choose from. The first can be unlocked shortly after reaching level 50 and making your way to Vern Castle, while the other can't be unlocked until progressing further in the storyline. Thankfully, the first Awakening skill, Enviska's Might, is a great choice. It deals good damage and has a wide area of effect, making it a consistent and reliable choice.

Sorceress' second Awakening ability, Apocalypse Call, summons meteors from the sky to rain down on the battlefield. While visually impressive and technically capable of dealing more damage overall, the fact that the meteors are fairly spread out means some have a high chance of missing their target. Since Awakening abilities have an extremely long cooldown, most players tend to go with Enviska's Might rather than roll the dice on Apocalypse Call. The choice of which Awakening skill to use with either the Ignitor or Reflux Sorceress build is ultimately up to you.

Call Of Duty: Warzone Patch Notes Revealed, See All The Changes Here

A new patch is now available for Call of Duty: Warzone, introducing new bug fixes, balance changes, and overall improvements for the popular battle royale game. The patch arrived today, March 3.

Starting with bug fixes, the patch remedies an issue that could cause placeholder text to appear in some cases. It also fixes a problem that could prevent the right popup icon to appear for certain game settings like Brightness and Audio Mix, among others.

The March 3 update also addresses an issue that could stop the Helicopter from being able to take off properly and an issue with field upgrades failing to work correctly in some scenarios.

In terms of balance changes and other tweaks, Vanguard Royale's UAVs are now available at Buy Stations fo a lower amount, $6000, instead of the $9000 that was originally proposed.

The Rebirth Iron Trials mode also returns as part of the update, with some changes like no more free loadout drops and new limits on the type of available vehicles. Additionally, the available item pool for Supply Boxes and items found on the ground has been "significantly altered," while Killstreak drop rates have been reduced.

There are weapon balance changes, too, including a nerf to sniper rifles so that a single headshot will only down an enemy if they are within 30 meters, while stun grenades now have their effect duration decreased by 50%.

This is just a sampling of the changes in Warzone today--check out the full patch notes below to learn more.

In other Call of Duty news, Treyarch just announced Black Ops Cold War's Year 2 content, and it includes the return of a fan-favorite multiplayer map.

Call Of Duty: Warzone March 3 Patch Notes

MODES

Vanguard Royale

The adjustments detailed in our March 2nd patch notes will be going live today with the Playlist update at Noon PST.

That said, we've made one final change:

  • UAV’s are now available in Buy Stations for $6,000

Upon further discussion, our team has decided to reintroduce UAVs at the lower price point of $6,000 to monitor match pacing closer to the original design. Once we've gathered enough data, we'll make the subsequent decision as to whether or not we follow through with the proposed increase to $9,000.

Providing Players with a fun and consistent long-term experience can sometimes take a little bit of short-term experimentation!

Rebirth Iron Trials

The Iron Trials make a glorious return today as part of the March 3rd Playlist update – this time to Rebirth Island!

At its core, Rebirth Iron Trials is a Battle Royale game mode — the last team standing wins, the Circle Collapse shrinks the playable area to promote engagements, and those who die earlier in the game have a chance to respawn if they win a duel in the Rebirth Island Gulag.

However, Iron Trials brings numerous fundamental changes to this traditional Battle Royale formula. All of them are meant to give players the chance to prove themselves as truly elite Operators — here’s what they are specifically:

General

  • Match Duration & Circle Collapse
    • Round Timers have been adjusted to reflect the scale of the Rebirth Island map and increased for the pacing of the game.
  • Loadouts
    • No free Loadout Drops — those who want to use their custom-built weaponry and gain access to Perks will need to purchase one at a premium.
    • Vehicles
      • Only ATVs are available.
    • Buy Stations
      • Elite Operators are known to be high rollers. The Buy Station increased their prices accordingly:
    • Armor Bundle
      • $1,500 to $2,000
    • Gas Mask
      • $3,000 to $4,000
    • Cluster Strike
      • $3,000 to $4,000
    • Precision Strike
      • $3,500 to $4,500
    • Self Revive
      • $4,000 to $5,000
    • UAV
      • $4,000 to $6,000
    • Loadout Drop Marker
      • $7,500 to $10,000 in Rebirth Island
    • Specialist Token
      • $30,000
  • Cash
    • The amount of Cash retained on death has been increased from 20% to 30%. Players will keep more of their hard-earned Cash.
  • Melee
    • Melee Finisher Damage has been removed. Settle the score with lead.

Operator

  • Base Health
    • Compared to a normal match, all players’ base health is increased from 100 to 250.
  • Health Regeneration
    • The regen delay timer has been increased from 5 to 7 seconds and regen per second has been decreased from 120 per second to 40. It may be wise for players to reconsider preferred Perks and Equipment.
  • Starting Equipment
    • Players drop in with a Top Break (VG) & Sawtooth (VG).

Loot

  • Overall
    • The item pool for Supply Boxes and items found on the ground have been significantly altered from that seen in standard play.
  • Basic Attachments
    • Common Weapons will start with an Attachment - mostly to provide their max magazine size.
  • Rarity Spawn Rates
    • Epic and Legendary weapons are now harder to find. Players will have to open a few more boxes than usual to find what they’re looking for.
  • Killstreaks
    • Drop rates have been reduced. Time to stop spamming UAVs and to start putting those senses to the test.
  • Cash Spawns
    • Larger piles of cash are rarer. Players will have to stay on top of scavenging for cash if they plan to afford a Loadout.
  • Field Upgrades
    • No Dead Silence. No Stopping Power Rounds. Period.

Equipment

  • Sniper Rifles
    • A single headshot from a Sniper Rifle will only down an enemy if they are within 30 meters. This gives time for those on the receiving end of a longshot to react - the most elite snipers will be able to adjust their strategies accordingly and still dish out lethal damage at long range with precise follow-up shots.
  • Stun Grenades
    • Stun effect duration decreased by 50%.
  • Medical Syringes
    • Health regeneration rate decreased by 50%. Upon taking non-Incendiary, direct damage from another Player (Tactical Equipment splash damage does not count), the Medical Syringe’s increased health regeneration effects will be canceled and standard health regeneration will begin–which can be interrupted by any source of damage. Additionally, the movement speed bonus gained when using a Medical Syringe has been decreased from 8% to 3%.

When Iron Trials was last with us, Medical Syringes were the go-to Tactical Equipment. We would like to experiment with reducing their effectiveness to see how this impacts gameplay and Equipment viability in the hands of Rebirth Island’s most seasoned veterans. We will be monitoring this change closely to ensure it does not have a net negative impact on the gameplay experience Trials Players have come to expect.

Gulag

  • Loadouts
    • No akimbo. No semi-auto or fully auto Shotguns. Limited selection of Tactical Equipment. It’s down to the bare essentials and the will to survive.
  • Redeployment
    • If players happen to survive their Gulag match, they’ll redeploy with whatever equipment is leftover from that fight. Be mindful of those resources.

Squad Size

  • Duos
    • We want players to really feel the impact of the increased Time-to-Kill. You only get to pick one squadmate… so choose wisely and watch each other's backs.

Unique Animated Calling Card Reward

For Rebirth Iron Trials victors, there’s an exclusive new Animated Calling Card to flex your prowess in winning the trial.

For tips and tricks on how to improve your chances of winning, check out the official Call of Duty Iron Trials Guide!

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed an issue causing the Unlock Criteria progress bar for some Weapon Attachments and Camos to display placeholder text.
  • Fixed an issue preventing the popup icon for certain game settings to not appear in the menu.
    • Affected settings include Brightness, Colorblind Type, Audio Mix, Hit Marker Sound Effects, Button Layout, and Stick Layout Preset
  • Fixed an issue causing the total Cash collected on the Player scoreboard to appear misaligned.
  • Fixed an issue in private matches preventing the Helicopter on top of Peak from being able to take off properly.
  • Fixed an issue causing placeholder descriptions to appear on various Calling Cards.
  • Fixed the rarity label on various Blueprints and Calling Cards.
  • Fixed an issue preventing Field Upgrades from working correctly while holding a Gasoline Can.

Review: King of Fighters XV (PS5) – Rock Solid Brawler Is Better than XIV, But Still Struggles to Wow

Expectations met.

There's a lot to like about King of Fighters XV if you're a fan of the genre. Deep, technical gameplay. A large and fairly interesting character roster. All-important rollback netcode, which allows for mostly smooth online matches. All of the ingredients are here, but the finished product still lacks a certain edge — the kind of edge that some would argue SNK lost when it transitioned from sprite-based, 2D fighting games.

Visuals aren't everything, but presentation is still a crucially important component of a successful brawler. Lest we forget the likes of Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite and King of Fighters XIV — the latter being much more relevant to this review.
