Get a Glimpse at Rogue Company’s new hero

Developer First Watch Games has given Rogue Company fans their first look at the title’s new upcoming hero, Glimpse. As her name implies, Glimpse is all about stealth. Rogue Company allows for countless dynamic team compositions and playstyles, this new hero preferring to stalk the map for vulnerable opponents or causing disruption in larger fights. Glimpse favours assault rifles and SMGs with two defining pieces of kit defining her loadout. First we have her Camouflage active ability, Camouflage – this will obscure you from sight, becoming more effective the slower you move. Then we have the Pop Smoke Grenade which explodes on impact to create a sudden distraction while blocking sightlines. Here’s an overview of her lore and kit: As a child, Glimpse was forced into a secret genetic modification program. She eventually escaped the facility that held her captive with the help of stolen cloaking technology. Scarred by her childhood trauma, she vowed to stop those responsible for creating her and has been hunting ever since. Weapons: Assault Rifles (ARs) and SMGs Starting Weapons: Nightshade AR and Knight SMG Secondary: P12K Pistol Melee: Kukri Gadget (New): Pop Smoke Grenade – New variant of smoke grenade. When thrown, the Pop Smoke Grenade will erupt in smoke immediately upon making contact with a surface. Ideal for placing smokescreens quickly and/or in places you normally couldn’t; Semtex Grenades. Abilities: Camouflage – Activate your suit’s camouflage and become much harder to see, for as long as your energy supply lasts. Moving faster and/or taking damage makes you easier to see. Glimpse’s Camouflage has 3 levels of invisibility based on how fast she moves. Passive: Sleight Your genetically engineered senses are dramatically heightened, allowing you to periodically detect enemies around you. Perks: Nimble Hands Hunter Padded Steps Stalker Life Drain Tracker Rounds New Content There’s no release date for Glimpse just yet though she was recently available via a closed test which hopefully means she will be joining the other Rogues soon. In its latest developer Proguecompany.com/news/glimpse-update-pts-notes, First Watch Games also outlines other changes coming to Rogue Company including various quality of life improvements. When we first played Rogue Company at launch back in 2020, we were left pretty impressed. A third person hero shooter with a tactical edge, it has received numerous updates and expansion since launch, introducing a slew of maps, characters, and modes. Better yet, it’s still completely free-to-play. Rogue Company is available to download and play on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch. And yes, there’s crossplay!

Dying Light 2: Beyond Human will take “at least 500 hours” to fully complete

Techland have announced that to fully complete all of Dying Light 2: Beyond Human you will need to spend over 500 hours playing the game, five times longer than it takes to 100% Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. “Most of the players who are in for story and side quests will be able to complete the game quicker, it will still be a solid experience though!” they add. “Story + side quests, if you’re not in a rush, should take you around 70-80hrs.” They have compared the play time with amount of time it would take to walk from Warsaw to Madrid, causing a few people to point out that that journey may be infinitely more enjoyable than slogging your way through 500 hours of zombie killing slumped in a chair. To fully complete Dying Light 2 Stay Human, you'll need at least 500 hours—almost as long as it would take to walk from Warsaw to Madrid!#DyingLight2 #stayhuman pic.twitter.com/Sk3KFpRJoA — Dying Light (@DyingLightGame) January 8, 2022 The news has been met with mixed reaction, die hard fans of the first game seem to be happybut there are quite a few people have been put off by the reveal. “That’s a bit too much so will have to wait for a sale on this one and get Horizon or something else, 500 far too much,” reads one tweet, “No offence, I loved your previous games but that is a huge turn off. As a father of two kids I don’t have the time to sink into these huge time sinks,” reads another. Dying Light 2 Stay Human was recently delayed and will now be landing on digital and physical stores on February 4th, 2022. This the second time the release date has moved, in January 2020 Techland announced that the game would be delayed out of its early 2020 window to allow additional development time, “Dying Light 2 Stay Human is by far the biggest and the most ambitious project we’ve ever done. Unfortunately, we’ve realized for us to bring the game to the level we envision, we need more time to polish and optimize it,” said Pawel Marchewka, CEO of Techland. Given the game is 500 hours long perhaps they could have cut say, half of it out, and released it two years ago when it was meant to be out? Just a thought. Source: Twitter

Dead By Daylight Leatherface mask ruined by racist players

Dead By Daylight developers Behaviour Interactive have announced major changes to one of its playable Killers. The studio has taken the decision to remove unlockable cosmetics for Leatherface following reports of in-game racial abuse. This change will come into effect during the upcoming mid-chapter update. As Leatherface, Dead By Daylight players are awarded grisly skin masks resembling the game’s Survivors if you kill them 25 times. It’s not hard to imagine how such a feature could be misused by toxic players to spread racial hate. Here’s an official statement from Behaviour Interactive in its latest developer’s notes: For those who may not know, The Cannibal can unlock the faces of the four original Survivors by sacrificing them 25 times. Members of the community have shared their experiences with people targeting and harassing them while using some of these masks. These reports were disheartening to hear, and we absolutely condemn this behaviour. We are not comfortable having these masks in the game when they are used as a tool to spread hate. To that end, we will be removing The Cannibal’s unlockable faces in this upcoming Mid-Chapter. Anyone who has ever played The Cannibal by the release of the Mid-Chapter update will be awarded 6,000 Iridescent Shards to compensate for their removal. We will not tolerate hateful activity and will continue to take every step necessary to protect the community. Dead By Daylight Review In case you missed it, we recently re-reviewed the multiplayer horror hit, bumping up its original score: “Dead By Daylight has evolved into somewhat of a phenomenon, proving that the often maligned games-as-a-service model produces more than just cookie cutter loot shooters. It’s still an acquired taste and a bit rough around the edges though stands out as one of the most unique ongoing multiplayer games of the generation.” What’s next for DBD? Chapter 23 has been officially announced and will feature a familiar Japanese horror icon. The upcoming content drop will be based on the original Ringu novel and movie. Here’s everything we know so far.

The Elder Scrolls Online is setting sail for a new expansion

The Elder Scrolls Online is getting yet another expansion, Bethesda promising a year-long saga packed with new content in 2022. Developer Zenimax Online Studios will be hosting an livestream later this month to share the first details. In the meantime, it has shared the following cinematic trailer. The minute-long teaser doesn’t give too much away though definitely sets the tone for what’s coming to The Elder Scrolls Online. We see adventurers set sail for an island, seemingly scattered by harsh storms. What are the chances players will start this new DLC, face in the sand after a devastating shipwreck? Why you should be playing The Elder Scrolls Online What nuggets of info we have been fed suggests that this is a totally new chapter for the popular MMO, taking place in a never before seen part of the world. Some are speculating that the island seen in the trailer is Yokuda, west of Tamriel. Where to watch the TESO livestream? Bethesda has confirmed that the reveal go live on Twitch at the following times – 8PM GMT (UK) / 3PM EST / 12PM PST. Last year saw the release of the latest Elder Scrolls Online expansion, Blackwood. Here’s what Reggie had to say in his review: Blackwood is a brilliant throwback to Oblivion, but it feels like a starting point for a grander tale. Players going into Blackwood expecting a full-fat expansion experience will feel slightly letdown. Its dedication to 2006s Cyrodill shines through with the spaced out content making the overall zone feel a little empty. Still, the content itself is a job well done, ticking all the boxes to keep players entertained, but new features like Blackwood’s companions work best when revisiting older zones. Meanwhile, The Elder Scrolls Online received a free next-gen update for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. This enabled an improved frame rate of 60 FPS, improved draw distance, and enhanced textures among other upgrades. Source: Press Release

AVICII Invector Encore Edition announced for Meta Quest 2

AVICII Invector Encore Edition will be coming to a VR plaftform for the first time, launching on Meta Quest 2 (formerly Oculus Quest 2) with the release date set as January 27th. Pre-orders are live now. Wired Productions and Hello There Games have confirmed that this version of AVICII Invector Encore Edition will have 35 tracks including S.O.S, Freak, and Peace of Mind. All music royalties from each copy of the game will be donated to the Tim Bergling Foundation which looks to highlight suicide as a mental health emergency worldwide. Tim Bergling, aka AVICII, took his own life in 2018 at the age of 28 having struggled with mental health difficulties. “When Tim and I first started talking about Invector, he was actually sent an early prototype VR headset. He was fascinated by the technology and the opportunities it created.” Said Oskar Eklund, the CEO of Hello There Games, “Working with Tim’s father, Klas, to finish this project has been an emotional process for the whole team. We still grieve for Tim, but we came together knowing this was a project he was very passionate about and hope his fans can continue to celebrate and remember AVICII for the light that he was.” “At Wired, we are all about celebrating the art, music, and developers behind each release. AVICII Invector, in many ways, is our perfect match.” Said Leo Zullo, Managing Director, Wired Productions. “Bringing AVICII Invector to VR has been a labour of love, one that will immerse fans and Meta Quest gamers alike in an unforgettable virtual reality experience. An experience which, I hope, will continue to celebrate Tim’s music and legacy for years to come.” AVICII Invector was first released in December 2019 with the Encore Edition releasing on Switch in 2020. When Dom reviewed the original release, he wrote: “AVICII Invector proves to be something of surprise. Edge of the seat rhythm action, great visuals and a varied and moving soundtrack make this a fantastic retrospective of a genuinely unique artist.“ Source: Press Release

Final Fantasy 7 Remake mod concept brings back PS1 camera

With the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PC, one thing was certain. Within days there would be a deluge of mods for the acclaimed roleplaying game: some benign, some ludicrous, and others looking to improve its visuals and performance. One particularly nostalgic mod concept for Final Fantasy 7 Remake comes via Final FanTV. In a six minute video uploaded to YouTube, they show what Square’s long awaited remake could have looked like if the developers decided to keep those classic, PS1 fixed camera angles. In this concept video we see Cloud, Barret, and the other members of Avalanche on their way to the Mako Reactor during the first chapter of the game. The concept creator shows us environments from Final Fantasy 7 and the remake side by side in a way we’ve never seen before. We even get to see combat sequences recreated in that classic PS1, turn-based style. In our original review of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PS4, we scored the game a triumphant 10/10: An utter joy to play from start to finish, packed with memorable scenes, moustache-twirling baddies, and epic battles. The first part of Final Fantasy VII Remake isn’t just polished, it’s opulent. In 2021, the RPG launched on PS5 with improved graphics and performance features alongside the Intergrade DLC which Nic reviewed: You should absolutely get Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. It’s easy to be critical and nitpick, but it’s worth remembering we’re looking at the DLC for one of the best and most-loved games of the PS4. The PS5 upgrade for Intergrade looks and feels incredible, and the chance to play as Yuffie is warmly received, especially when she completely changes the tone to something more light-hearted. However, the DLC isn’t quite perfect and, despite the filler, it feels very short for its price, especially if you’re not interested in the side missions. Square Enix has yet unveil the second part in the FF7R series. With much of the groundwork having already been established, hopefully we’re due to get our first look by the end of 2022. However, it’s likely the publisher won’t want to draw attention away from the next mainline game in the series, Final Fantasy XVI.

Nobody Saves The World releases on January 18th

Nobody Saves The World will be released on January 18th, Drinkbox Studios has confirmed. The Guacamelee! and Severed developer announced the date, and confirmed that Nobody Saves The World will be available Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and Windows 10. Nobody Saves The World will also be on Game Pass from day one on consoles, PC, and Cloud gaming. Drinkbox Studios also confirmed that the game’s soundtrack, composed by Jim Guthrie, will be available to purchase on Steam and be available on music streaming services once Nobody Saves The World launches. Players will take on the role of the character called Nobody who stumbles upon a magic wand. That is convenient since the world is in danger, and magic will be the key to saving it. As Nobody learns how to wield the wand they learn different forms, such as an archer, a mouse, or a horse, to tackle the various quests that the game will have. Nobody Saves The World’s features include: QUESTING, NOT GRINDING: Player progression and new abilities are obtained exclusively by completing quests, not by defeating monsters. Quests range from “Complete a Dungeon”, to “Poison Baddies”, to “Cheer up a fellow rabbit-lover.” QUESTS UNLOCK NEW FORMS: Level up and unlock new Forms by completing quests. Each new Form has specific strengths and weaknesses and new abilities to experiment with. COMBINE ABILITIES: Customize your Forms by equipping abilities from other Forms: Mix and Match abilities in fun and unexpected ways! EVOLVING DUNGEONS: As you become stronger, procedurally generated dungeons will increase in difficulty and complexity to keep you on your toes! When Nobody Saves The World was announced Lead Designer Ian Campbell said, “Nobody Saves the World is full of everything we love about Action-RPGs, and none of the stuff we hate. Gobs of forms and abilities, dozens of dungeons, hundreds of quests, tons of character customization – and no grinding! It’s packed with the Drinkbox charm you know and love… OH and also, you can play as a Horse!” Source: Press Release

Far Cry 6 Pagan: Control DLC arrives next week

Far Cry 6’s Pagan: Control DLC will be launching on January 11th, Ubisoft has confirmed. The content will be the second piece of the Season Pass, following on from Vaas: Insanity. As the name suggests Pagan: Control will be based around Far Cry 4 villain Pagan Min, King of the Kingdom of Kyrat and Dragon Head of the Triad Empire. The content will delve into Pagan Min’s mind where he will confront his past and familiar faces. Pagan Min’s aim is to break away from his guilt and regrets in life. Stefan played through the Vaas: Insanity content, and wrote: “As for Vaas’ story, as someone whose first real experience with Far Cry came with the third entry, it’s nice to revisit the ever-so-memorable character. Yes, it’s obviously a play to the nostalgia that many people have for the game, but the way that Ubisoft frames it, plays with the events of Far Cry 3 and expands on Vaas’ story in various ways is enjoyable. It’s probably not essential – this isn’t going to transform any future playthroughs of Far Cry 3 – but it’s worthwhile for the diehard fans.” In our review for Far Cry 6, Gareth wrote: “Far Cry 6 feels like a sequel that was made because there needed to be a sequel, that’s making changes because it needs to show progress. The previous three numbered games in the series felt like they had their own identity and tried to offer more and more options to the player, but Far Cry 6 is a lateral move towards something that isn’t quite the Far Cry I originally loved.” Pagan: Control is the second of three pieces of DLC following Vaas: Insanity. Completing this trifecta of content will be Joseph: Collapse, and the will focus on Far Cry 5 villain Joseph Seed, the religious fanatic who set up the The New Eden cult. Source: Press Release

A Skull & Bones associate game director has left Ubisoft

An associate game director on Ubisoft Singapore’s long in development Skull & Bones has left the company. Antoine Henry announced his departure on LinkedIn last month with almost 15 years at Ubisoft under his belt. He said, “Goodbye Ubisoft! After nearly 15 years, today was my last day. I’m thankful for the people I’ve met and what they brought me professionally and personally. Hopefully I was able to give back a little bit.” The news (reported by VGC) has reminded us that Ubisoft is still trying to make Skull & Bones a thing, despite the game having been working its way through the nine circles of Hell since its first reveal. Antoine Henry’s departure might not have a significant effect on the game’s development. He held several different roles at the studio over the past seven years, working on Skull & Bones as Lead Game Designer from 2014-2017, then as Associate Game Director, where he shifted over to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla from 2018-2021, and then returned after the completion of The Siege of Paris expansion. In other words, he’s only had a fleeting role on the game since it was rebooted. The most recent news on the game’s overarching progress came in September 2020, with the company assuring wannabe pirates that the game was still in the works, but would have “a new vision“. Since then, it’s just been financial reports with Ubisoft disclosing that the Skull & Bons will  not ship during the 2021-22 fiscal year. So… late 2022 is technically still a possibility. Technically… The game was revealed at E3 2017 and was described as “naval combat is taken to the next level”. The original vision pitched a shared systemic world, where you can sail with other players or execute betrayals. There was a 5v5 mode called The Loot Hunt, and you can disguise your ship to evade detection. Each ship has a special abilities such as siege mode which has no limits on cannon fire when the vessel is anchored. If you’re facing a powerful foe you can invite other players in to the battle to even the odds. The game could obviously be very different now, with a recent report suggesting that it’s been pivoted to a live service game. Ubisoft’s statement explains that it was “necessary to have some fresh eyes join the team”, which happened two years ago, and that it’s expanded to be a global effort including the Ubisoft studios in Berlin, Chengdu, Kiev, Paris and the Philippines. It’s not just the game’s shifting direction and long development that has been in the spotlight, though. Ubisoft Singapore has also been implicated in the toxic workplace and harassment allegations that emerged in 2020 and reemerged in 2021 through reporting by Kotaku. This in turn saw the government’s Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices open an investigation into the company. Source: LinkedIn via VGC
