Back 4 Blood has passed the 10 million player mark, developer Turtle Rock Studios trumpeted today.

The spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead released back in October last year for PC, PlayStation and Xbox. By the end of that month, it had six million players already - no doubt boosted by its arrival via Xbox Game Pass.

It should come as no surprise to anyone that The Anacrusis is adopting seasonal Challenge Tracks to keep players playing. What is a surprise though is that they are allowing early players to unlock the Premium content for every single Challenge Track when it is available.

A few weeks ago, I was able to try The Anacrusis. It’s a co-op shooter from Stray Bombay, a studio helmed by Chet Faliszek (formerly of Valve) and Kimberly Voll (formerly of Riot Games). Think of the experience as akin to Left 4 Dead in space. However, given that The Anacrusis released as part of Steam’s Early Access program, there were a lot of issues to iron out. Additionally, I was mostly playing solo prior to the launch due to timezone differences. Fast forward to the present, and the game’s player population hasn’t quite caught up to its ambitions.   Lost in space The Anacrusis takes place aboard a space station that’s filled with aliens in ’70s-style clothing. There are four playable characters, though you don’t get to choose which one becomes your avatar (don’t worry, since there’s no mechanical difference between them). While you can play solo with bots, it’s still an online experience. That means a player who ...

The Anacrusis is definitely one to watch. It has great style, some clever AI and some exceptionally designed levels. However, it still needs to nail down some of the basics to reach the lofty heights of its inspiration.

The games industry doesn’t hibernate for very long over the winter and holidays, so there’s already the first stirrings for what looks to be one of the busiest periods in gaming that I can remember.
