UPDATE: Watch the new Horizon Forbidden West story trailer here!

Horizon Forbidden West is set to launch on the 18th February on both PS4 and PS5 and ahead of that Sony have released a new story trailer. It does contain quite a lot footage we have seen before but there are some new sections. Most notably what appears to be a golden hologram, perhaps a representation of Gaia, one of the supercomputers from the first game, and right at the end a human wearing a space-age silver suit rather than the rougher tribal styles every other character wears. Who is this mysteriously woman and more importantly, why is inviting Aloy for a nice cup of tea at a very posh looking table? Is it in indication that, contrary to previous game lore, some humans did survive he machine apocalypse? UPDATE: The holographic woman is confirmed as Gaia and the mysterious woman in the silver dress is played by none other than Carrie-Anne Moss! Regalla, the main antagonist of the game is played by the amazing Angela Bassett. Horizon Forbidden West has just been revealed as one of the top games in our 2022 Most Wanted list, coming in at number 3. Read our thoughts on the upcoming PlayStation exclusive here. This new trailer comes just a few days after we got our first glimpse of Horizon in VR. Sony confirmed the name of PlayStation VR2 while also announcing their first exclusive game: Horizon Call of the Mountain. Who’s looking forward to popping a fancy hat on to truly enter Aloy’s world? Horizon Forbidden West will release on February 18th 2022, having missed its intended 2021 release target. As a cross-gen release for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, Sony caused a bit of a stink when revealing their upgrade plans (or lack thereof), quickly U-turning to stick to the spirit of previous statements they had made to now offer free upgrades from PS4 to PS5. Great news for those stuck on the older generation during the current console shortages, as everyone that wants can pick up the game without worrying about future upgrade fees on this occasion. PlayStation Reiterates God of War Ragnarok 2022 Release Date

Be ready, boy.

PlayStation has published a list over on its official site, which highlights 22 games set to release in 2022. As you'd expect, it covers a lot of this year's big hitters, including Horizon Forbidden West, Elden Ring, Dying Light 2, Gran Turismo 7, and more. All of these titles have set release dates — but what about the currently undated God of War Ragnarok? Well, based on this list, it looks like Sony is doubling down on Kratos returning later this year, as it features quite heavily.

Now, obviously, things can change between now and...whenever Ragnarok is supposed to come out. There's still plenty of time for the PS5 and PS4 sequel to get slapped with a delay — but this at least shows that Ragnarok is still expected in 2022.

Top 50 Best Games Launching in 2022

It’s the beginning of the year and although this is generally a good time to look back and despair at your growing backlog, we’re just around the corner from some pretty major video game launches. In preparation, we’ve crafted a list of the top 50 best games launching in 2022. Trust us when we say this list could have doubled in size to cover 100 upcoming titles but these are the ones that are truly worth keeping on your radar. Overall, it’s a characteristically diverse list from the team here at TheSixthAxis. We’ve got slam dunk sequels, AAA heavy hitters, and promising indies, amidst more obscure video games releasing in 2022. It’s worth noting that some names featured here don’t have a release date set in stone. As such, expect some of our top picks to slide into 2023 (or beyond!). Top 50 Best Games Launching In 2022 God of War Ragnarok Elden Ring Horizon Forbidden West Dead Space Remake Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Lord of the Rings: Gollum Splatoon 3 Starfield Gran Turismo 7 Hellblade II Dying Light 2 Stay Human Stray Gotham Knights Sifu Bayonetta 3 Ghostwire: Tokyo A Plague Tale: Requiem Baldur’s Gate III LEGO Star Wars: Skywalker Saga Marvel’s Midnight Suns Pokémon Legends: Arceus Saints Row Forspoken Advance Wars 1+2 R-Boot Camp The Expanse Total War Warhammer 3 Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl Street Fighter VI Homeworld 3 Slitterhead Earth Defense Force 6 Metal Slug Tactics Company of Heroes 3 Tchia Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Shadow Warrior 3 Evil West Oxenfree II: Lost Signals Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil In Me Triangle strategy Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Sonic Frontiers Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge Kirby and the Forgotten Land Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin Rainbow Six Extraction Vampire: The Masquerade Swansong ARC Raiders If you just can’t wait for you next fix, here are the best games you can play right now on PS5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.

The best PS5 Games to play in 2022

Managing to grab a PlayStation 5 is still one of the hottest tickets in town to get you a ride to next-gen gaming. Once you’ve got the monolithic black and white console set up, what should you play on it? What are the best PS5 games available to play right now that you really need to be checking out? We’ve compiled a list of these must-play PS5 games, picking a range of titles that show off the new generation’s power and graphical potential, as well as some cross-gen staples and games from less expected corners. This, however, could all change in the next few months. Sony have some huge games like Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7 coming out to start 2022, so we’ll pop back in to change the list as we go. The Best PS5 games As ever, this is just the beginning, and we’ll definitely be updating this with new games as worthy ones come out. Oh, and just so we’re clear, you’ve got Astro’s Playroom pre-installed and you absolutely need to play that game! Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Returnal Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Kena: Bridge of Spirits Deathloop Demon’s Souls Scarlet Nexus Hitman 3 The Pathless Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart If you want a showcase of what the PlayStation 5 can do, then look no further than Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. So much of Rift Apart will be familiar to fans of the series, but Insomniac are able to turn everything up to 11. The PS5 is able to throw lovely ray-tracing effects up on screen, it can power more detailed environments than ever before filled with more enemies to battle, and the PS5’s build-in SSD lets them throw you from one world to the next in what feels like the blink of an eye. Then there’s the DualSense controller with all manner of tricks being played through the controller’s adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. This is an early spectacle for PlayStation fans to savour. Returnal Returnal was a statement game from Housemarque, taking their mastery of arcade bullet hell shooters to new places. The game is a third person shooter roguelike, but that does nothing to get across how slick the gameplay feels and the exhilarating pressure of the game’s inventive boss battles. Being a roguelike means this won’t be for everyone – whenever you die, you lose all your weapons and gear and have to start over from scratch – but there’s an intriguing story that the game tells, and a mystery that can easily get you as hooked on blasting your way through the alien world before you. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Insomniac’s second entry on this list comes from their PS5 launch game Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, an interquel between the 2018 original and the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. As you probably guessed from the title, this game stars Miles Morales, the other Spider-Man who’s just learning the ropes and getting a handle on his surprisingly different abilities and powers. It’s another great adventure set in the open world of New York City and shows off some of the PS5’s ray-tracing capabilities with different graphics modes. Not played the original Marvel’s Spider-Man? The Ultimate Edition of Miles Morales comes with Spider-Man Remastered on PS5, and there’s an in-game option to upgrade the original game as well. Kena: Bridge of Spirits Another example of what the PS5 can do, Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a gorgeous looking game and comes from an independent studio making their very first game! From the gorgeous Pixer-esque visuals, to the glorious orchestral score and rock-solid gameplay, this game shows the potential for smaller studios to weave fantastic experiences. Deathloop Deathloop takes the excellent immersive sim gameplay of Arkane’s previous games and build a fun and engrossing new tale around it. You play as Colt, an assassin who’s stuck on the island of Blackreef that’s trapped in a day-long timeloop, with his only possible way to escape being to break the loop by exploring the island and taking out the eight Visionaries that want live forever within the loop. Out to stop him is Julianna (and literally everyone else on the island, but mainly her) and the relationship between the two of them makes for one of the best single player games of the past year. Or, you know… the best single player game of 2021. Demon’s Souls Were you expecting to see a remake of a cult classic PS3 game on this list? FromSoftware’s Demon’s Souls wasn’t a big seller on PS3, but it led to the birth of the Dark Souls series and everything since then. Bluepoint Games remade Demon’s Souls from the ground up for PS5, and it’s a huge upgrade that fills the world with graphical nuance and detail, not to mention a better frame rate – you have a choice between 30fps and 60fps graphics modes. Plenty of other quality-of-life changes mean this is a must for Souls fans, and another option for anyone curious to see if the genre is for them. Scarlet Nexus Scarlet Nexus manages to mix an intriguing story, a constant sense of intrigue, and a wonderful over-the-top battle system together into a game that’s a blast to play. On PS5 it comes with a crisp and clean anime visual style that makes the truly wild enemy designs really stand out as you battle for the future of mankind. This is easily one of the best JRPGs to come out in the 2021, and that’s saying something in what was a great year for anime games and JRPGs. Hitman 3 Capping off a six year journey for Agent 47 and IO Interactive, Hitman 3 remains one of the smartest, most stylish games around where luxurious, labyrinthian levels, clever kills, and slick stealth gameplay mesh together with some surprising and fun twists along the way. It wraps a bow on the World of Assassination trilogy, even letting you import all of those great levels from the first two games to create what is the definitive Hitman game. The Pathless One of the more striking indie games from the launch of the PlayStation 5, The Pathless certainly takes some influences from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but plays with those fundamentals in interesting ways to create an open world adventure that you glide through with real pace. Your bow is not just a weapon to use in the game’s epic boss battles, but a way of enhancing your movement through an open world that is accessible despite not having a world map. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade Remaking Final Fantasy VII has become a huge undertaking for Square Enix, but it’s one that’s been worth the wait as the first episode was easily one of the best PS4 games released in 2020. The next step was to bring the game to PS5, making some graphical improvements along the way and releasing the Intermission DLC as a new generation exclusive. Intermission introduces everyone’s favourite ninja extraordinaire Yuffie. She’s a lot of fun in this standalone story and we can’t wait to see how she’s woven into Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2, whenever that’s released. Did you pick up Final Fantasy VII Remake for PS4 when it was included with PlayStation Plus? Well, good news, you can now get a free upgrade to the PS5 version!

Rumour: Horizon Forbidden West PS4 Version Leaks, Spoilers Could Be Incoming

Aloy, Aloy.

Horizon Forbidden West is set to release in just over a month — it'll be here before you know it. But in the meantime, you might want to start being wary of potential spoilers. Supposedly, the PlayStation 4 version of the game has somehow leaked well ahead of launch, and off-screen images of the open world title have made their way online. For the record, these images look legit, but there's obviously no way to verify their authenticity at this time.

If these pictures are the real deal, then it suggests that Forbidden West is out there — at least in some form — and that could, unfortunately, mean that spoilers are incoming. As always, we recommend caution — even if this whole thing turns out to be a ruse.

Our Most Wanted Games of 2022 – #1 God of War Ragnarok

Here we are, right at the peak of the mountain of games we consider our most wanted to see and play in 2022. In mid-December we started our sprint through our top 50 games for the coming 12 months – see our  but slowed down to better appreciate the games that made out top 5. So, what game could top Suicide Squad, the Dead Space remake, Horizon Forbidden West, and Elden Ring? Well, boy, I think you know the answer to that one already. It’s literally in the headline. 2018’s God of War found our beloved mass murderer Kratos a changed man. His days of God killing behind him and he was now living a quiet life as a family man with his wife and son, Atreus. Of course things didn’t stay that way for anywhere near long enough and shortly after his wife’s passing, father and son were off on another murder spree, this time in the realm of the Norse Gods, leading up to Æsir god Baldur getting it in the neck. That event sets off the story for the second game, Ragnarok, which will conclude the Norse story. Set three years after the previous title, Ragnarok will find Atreus entering his troublesome teenage years – by troublesome we mean “He’s Loki” – with the duo traversing all nine realms of Norse mythology. On the way they are set to meet previous ally Freya, the chunky thicc boy Thor, both of which seem to want to have a word with Kratos for killing their sons. The stage is set for an epic conclusion to the story and one that is arriving earlier than previously planned, despite delays due to the Covid pandemic. Due to the long development time of each game it was decided to conclude the saga in two games rather than three, else fans may have to wait 15 years for the story to conclude and the dev team have been working on the same story for even longer. However, this may not be the story we are all imagining. Kratos decimated the Greek gods leaving barely any of them standing, but this is Ragnarok of which there are many different interpretations. In one telling, it’s Loki’s son Fenrir (and yes, his son is a wolf) that kills Odin. While previous God of War games have had sexy-time mini games that sort of thing doesn’t really get a pass these days so it’s unlikely that we’ll see Atreus in the act. So will it be up to Kratos to revert to his old God killing ways? That also seems unlikely. Sure he’s still a grumpy old curmudgeon but he is a family man more than a warrior now and the death count of Gods in the 2018 game was comparatively low. Raganrok will happen, but how and why remains to be seen, and there’s one other question: Will Kratos survive? He is an old man now and this is set to be the conclusion of the series. As we’ve seen with a certain other PlayStation series, Sony are happy to let their top developers smack a fan favourite character’s brains out with a golf club… There’s also the question of where he could go; Egypt is the obvious choice and it has been hinted at the in the games, but Egyptian mythology predates both Greek and Norse, so in theory that mythology is very much dead by the time of Ragnarok. Then again, there may be a way round that. God of War Ragnarok is set to be released in 2022 for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, but currently has no firm release date.
