Arc System Works has announced that Testament will be the next playable character to be added to Guilty Gear Strive. Fans will recognize Testament as a longtime boss of the fighting game series.
As seen in their new character trailer (embedded below), Testament uses a scythe as the basis of their attacks, inflicting damage on their foes with an impressive reach. They can also utilize pastel-colored demon familiars to aid them in battle.
Testament is included in Guilty Gear Strive's Season 1 Pass. Purchasing the pass will unlock the character on March 28. If you don't want to buy a whole season pass, Testament can be purchased individually as well--doing so will unlock them on March 31.
Arc System Works also revealed its plans for Guilty Gear Strive Season 2. The new season will add four more playable characters to Guilty Gear Strive's roster, as well as cross-play support between PS5, PS4, and PC.
Game dev and modder WistfulHopes has released a number of mods for Guilty Gear Strive since it released last year, and recently has managed to add full characters into the game including series regular Sin Kiske and even Goku--complete with mechanics from Dragon Ball FighterZ.
While not a playable mod, or at least not yet, WistfulHopes released a video on her Twitter of Goku fighting seamlessly in Guilty Gear Strive. Where most modded characters in games like Strive are simply added as cosmetic-only skins on top of existing characters, WistfulHopes' Goku has been built for Strive from the ground up. The modder explained in the comments that she had to build certain DBFZ mechanics from scratch, including super dash.
WistfulHopes recently launched a mod that added series regular Sin Kiske into the 2021 game, becoming the first Strive mod to add a fully unique custom character. The mod includes a full custom moveset based on previous games, as well as unique animations, colors, and even a new design for the character. A beta version of the mod with added updates is also available for supporters on Ko-fi.
Other projects WistfulHopes has released include Guilty Gear Strive Plus, an expansive mod that aims to balance the game's existing roster, as well as working in mechanics and moves from previous Guilty Gear games.

One announcement that seemed to fly more under the radar, but was arguably the biggest one of them all: rollback netcode was heading to two BlazBlue games. Today, the PC version of BlazBlue Centralfiction at last has its rollback netcode.
For those that don’t know, rollback is a form of netcode that allows fighting games to function more smoothly online. To make a complicated system sound far simpler than it is, whenever there is a break in a connection between two players, the game will “roll itself back” to a previous point. Most of the time, this rollback is imperceptible to players.
The important part is that, unlike traditional delay-based netcode, it allows fighting games to function as intended o...
Another wacky year, all thanks to that evil little bug that’s still causing terrible global issues. I wish I had more cool and epic stuff to write about here, but 2021 wasn’t all that different from 2020. I did get to go back to movie theaters to see Dune and Spider-Man, so that’s great, I […]
