Here's how to pre-load the new-gen version of GTA 5 on PS5 and Xbox Series X right now, alongside news on the release date, pricing, and save transfers.
Pre-orders for GTA 5’s re-release, coming to the PlayStation 5 from 14th March, are beginning to go live in some parts of the word. And there’s a huge surprise: it’s cheap – remarkably so. While many may feel Rockstar owes them a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade, the price for the single player campaign will be just AUD$14.99 at launch, as part of an introductory offer. That’s Australian dollars, which converts to about $9.99 in the United States.
Now there are a couple of things to keep in mind here: GTA Online, which is also AUD$14.99 on the Xbox Series X|S, will be free for three months on the PS5, so you won’t have to pay for that if you claim it before 14th June. The price for both the single player and mulitplayer combined will increase to AUD$59.95 from 14th June.
One use of the DualSense controller that we adored in Astro’s Playroom is the way some levels allow you to feel the sensation of raindrops in your hands. It’s something that developers have been hesitant to replicate, so hats off to Rockstar for going the extra mile in GTA 5. The developer’s upcoming next-gen remaster actually sounds like it will use the full range of PlayStation 5 features, including the ability to feel Los Santos’ weather.
Writing on the PlayStation Blog, here’s what it said specifically of PS5’s innovative controller: “Feel every moment of the action through the DualSense wireless controller’s adaptive triggers and advanced haptic feedback, giving players the ability to experience new sensations such as changes in the road surface texture, additional sensations from specific weather effects, directional damage, feedback from explosions, and more.” Sounds great!
We get some wide-angle shots of Los Santos both during day and night, some cinematic gameplay shots from the online mode, and a look at the story’s trio of iconic protagonists – Trevor, Michael, and Franklin sure are looking fresh. The release will have three graphics modes when it launches, one blending 60 frames-per-second with raytracing, which is welcome. Will it be a free PS4 to PS5 upgrade? We don’t know.
More details on the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 5 and GTA Online for PlayStation 5 and Xbox series X have been revealed by Rockstar.
One of the most notable points is Rockstar's migration plan for GTA Online. "PS4 and Xbox One players will be able to transfer both their GTA 5 Story Mode progress and their current GTA Online characters and progression to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, or across console platforms, with a one-time migration for each," Rockstar writes.
Rockstar has just dropped a load of new details regarding the PlayStation 5 version of Grand Theft Auto V — and you can read all about them by clicking this link. But there's still one important question that Rockstar hasn't properly answered: will there be any kind of upgrade path for PS4 players?
There's no mention of pricing or free upgrades in any of the material that Rockstar has sent over, so we're assuming that there probably won't be an upgrade path for GTA5 PS4 owners to follow.
Grand Theft Auto V — and GTA Online, which will be available separately — are making the leap to PlayStation 5 a little later this month. Rockstar Games has finally given us a few details on what to expect, and it seems as though the studio has added plenty of bells and whistles.
The PS5 version of the ever-popular sandbox will feature three visual modes. You'll be able to choose from Fidelity Mode (4K with ray tracing, 30 frames-per-second), Performance Mode (upscaled 4K, 60 frames-per-second), and Performance RT (upscaled 4K with ray tracing, targeting 60 frames-per-second). On the topic of visuals, this new version will apparently benefit from all kinds of enhancements and improvements, such as a more densely populated open world, improved lighting, explosions, and more.
