Up Next: The 10 games you should be playing on your Xbox in March 2022

We were wrong to dismiss the best Xbox games releasing in March 2022. There’s Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, which is unusual in the sense that it’s a full game inspired by some DLC. And that’s without mentioning a new Final Fantasy game, Elex II and some tasty indie games and sequels. Maybe Elden Ring has some competition after all.

Something for the Weekend – 15/01/22

The games industry doesn’t hibernate for very long over the winter and holidays, so there’s already the first stirrings for what looks to be one of the busiest periods in gaming that I can remember. The next few months are jam-packed with game releases, many of which were delayed from the end of last year, and more trailers and announcements are starting to drop. That’s in addition to PC gamers getting a month where they can catch up on some huge games that are being ported to their platform for the first time. In the News This Week Hitman 3 Year 2 starts 20th January – Freelancer mode, a new level and free updates revealed All Xbox One consoles were discontinued by the end of 2020 Take Two purchasing Zynga for $12.7 billion Troy Baker backs a voice based NFT site but won’t be selling his own voice Deep Rock Galactic gains 6 million players in one week after PS Plus launch STALKER 2 hit with massive delay More Days Gone sequel plans revealed by game director Jeff Ross Overwatch 2 LEGO set delayed due to Activision Blizzard allegations PUBG’s free-to-play relaunch is now live on PlayStation, Xbox and Steam Techland clarify how long Dying Light 2 takes to complete Giveaways We’ve got a great giveaway this week for fans of the RuneScape MMORPG. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, which is mind-boggling for pretty much every game, Jagex created a gorgeous RuneScape: The First 20 Years book looking back of the game’s history. We’ve got five copies of the Deluxe Edition for a giveaway, which you can enter here. Games in Review and Featured Articles January seems to be the month of choice for games to get ports to PC, with both Monster Hunter Rise and God of War making the jump to keyboard & mouse. How did they hold up? Monster Hunter Rise – PC, NSW – 9/10 God of War – PC, PS5, PS4 – 8/10 Battle Brothers – PS4, XBO, PC – 7/10 Elsewhere, we took a good long look at The Anacrusis, a new sixties sci-fi themed take on the Left 4 Dead formula that’s now in Early Access and Xbox Game Preview, while Gareth dove back into the mind of Far Cry 4’s arch villain with the Far Cry 6 – Pagan: Control DLC. His mind is rather similar in structure to Vaas’ from the first DLC… Over the weekend, we had two features, the first from Eric delving into The Legend of Zelda Second Quest, and the second with Reggie asking what happened to Arena Shooters? Finally, What We Played featured The Anacrusis, Far Cry 6 and Fantasian. Trailer Park We could post trailers for days this week, but here’s a few of the highlights: Gran Turismo 7 gameplay trailer heads to the Daytona International Speedway Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer reveals more gameplay from its Hisuian adventure Kirby and the Forgotten Land is coming out in March – new gameplay and co-op revealed in trailer New ELEX II trailer dives into the overhauled RPG combat Your Achievements And finally for this round-up, we come to… you! Open World RPG Elex 2 Promises Improved Combat in This New Trailer

Elexellent.

Elex II, eh? The sequel to 2017's incredibly rough but somewhat fun Elex is set to release on the 1st March — and it's promising a better combat system, as you can see in this new trailer. Indeed, combat was one of the original Elex's biggest issues — an often janky mess that simply didn't feel good to play around with. Admittedly, the action still looks a bit... stunted in the video, but we're holding out hope.

There are a lot of things that Elex II needs to improve upon if it wants to widen the property's audience. With the game out in just a couple of months, let us know if Elex II is on your radar in the comments section below.

New ELEX II trailer dives into the overhauled RPG combat

A new trailer for ELEX II has been released, diving into the combat of this science fantasy RPG sequel. Coming out on 1st March 2022 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC, the game is also now available for pre-order on digital stores across these platforms. The trailer shows off the many ways that you can fight back against the invading alien forces, whether it’s shooting them with guns, bows, rockets and laser weapons, getting right up close to whack them with sword, axe and chainsaw, or using magical abilities to make it rain fire. It’s all part of what Piranha Bites have promised will be a massively improved combat system. ELEX II returns to the science-fantasy world of Magalan, featuring a huge open world that you can explore with a jetpack, just like in the first game. It’s several years after Jax defeated the Hybrid, but now a new threat is coming from the sky. That’s right, the Skyanides are coming, and they’re going to ruin the precarious balance of the world, and it’s up to you to try and unite people to fight them off. Would that it were so simple to get people to put aside their differences and work in their own best interests. The world will bend to your actions with NPCs that remember what you’ve done, will join and leave your group depending on your choices, and can also be killed, which ripples out to impact the story. The first game released back in 2017 with big ambitions and a tone that gained a decent following, but also a few weaknesses when stacked up against bigger budget titles. In our ELEX review, Steve wrote: “ELEX is the very opposite of the accessible games that have revolutionised the open world RPG in recent years. I enjoyed it as a modern looking take on the Gothic series, but newcomers will have to be prepared to fight against the systems through the beginning of the game. This has resulted in the game quickly gaining a cult following who celebrate its obscurity and lack of accessibility. I don’t agree with this take and would argue that the best aspects of the game would only be improved by a more polished and refined presentation.”
