LEAP brings 60 players onto its genre-blending action with a closed beta next week
Lately, I’ve been wondering: are arena-style shooters back on the rise? My instinct says no, as the battle royale genre still clearly reigns as king. However, with games like Splitgate and Halo Infinite, I’m thinking that perhaps there’s some evidence of growing battle royale fatigue, and classic shooter action may once more return. It feels too early to say for sure. However, with LEAP, announced this week by Blue Isle Studios, it’s clear that arena shooters aren’t ready to bite the dust yet. Described as a ‘blend of FPS genres,’ LEAP will feature battles with up to 60 players who fight on the ground and in the air. Will it be different enough to drag people from Fortnite for a bit? We’ll know when LEAP enters closed beta starting next week.

It was a big deal when Sony began porting some of its exclusive PlayStation games to PC. As the company puts out some of the highest-budget, best-made games around, the possibilities were very promising. Though when it came time to release the first couple of games outside the PlayStation brand, we got a couple of somewhat bland open-world games instead of anything that really showed the true potential of the surprising development. But God of War is here now. It’s not only the best game in its series, but it was one of the best of the last decade, making it a true must play for anyone that hasn’t gotten to experience it yet — even nearly four years after its initial release.

PUBG was one of the first shooters to get the battle royale formula working successfully. It had some golden days, even years, but has now fallen on less popular times. PUBG Corp. could have done a lot more to prevent the game’s decline. But the developer always seemed to focus on unimportant issues and made a series of bizarre decisions. Like the current name, PUBG: Battlegrounds. That stands for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds: Battlegrounds. Okay then.
