The union representing Canadian border agents has reached a tentative labor agreement, averting a potential strike at the country’s borders.
The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSCA) — which represents more than 9,000 border workers — announced the agreement on June 11, after a week of mediated talks with Canada’s Treasury Board. Days before that, a possible strike had been delayed from June 6 to June 12 to allow for more time to negotiate.
“Our bargaining team has been working around the clock to secure the best contract for our members, and this tentative agreement is a testament to their incredible hard work and dedication,” said PSAC national president Sharon DeSousa. “This is a well-deserved victory for our members at CBSA who safeguard our nation’s borders and ensure the safety and security of all Canadians.”
Full terms of the tentative deal will be announced on June 13. Union members will then still need to ratify the agreement before it becomes official.
