Link as he approaches the first eye door of Skyview Temple

Link as he approaches the first eye door of Skyview Temple / Nintendo

Skyward Sword eye door puzzles exist inside the Skyview Temple, the first major dungeon in the game.

To begin with, solving the three eye door puzzles located in the Skyview Temple, Link must approach the eye and spin his sword, making the mob confused. This will turn the eye door’s original blue eye to a crimson eye, marking the completion of that eye door.

The first eye door is straightforward. Approach the eye door on the platform and proceed to spin your sword in circles. The eye door will follow your sword’s direction, eventually confusing it enough to have the eye lock fall off, unlocking your first door.

The second eye door is slightly different than the first eye door in terms of approaching the eyes themselves. If you get too close to the two eyes in the second eye door, the eyes will close, stopping you from continuing the puzzle. Link must maintain a little bit of distance between himself and the eyes, to which the eyes will then open. Complete the same process as the first eye door of spinning your sword, and you are all set.

The third and final eye door has a couple of extra steps to be done. This door has three eyes to be unlocked, with only the two lower eyes opening themselves as you approach. To get the top-most eye to open, climb the wall of vines behind the third eye door. A box attached to a spider’s string will be dangling, use your Beetle to snip off the box from the spider web. All you have to do now is push the box off the edge, situate the box to where you can stand on top of it, and access that stubborn third eye, and you are all set!

Eye doors in Skyward Sword is a nice introduction to the mechanics of puzzles and dungeons, and the Skyview Temple serves as an excellent

Activision Blizzard CEO Apologizes for ‘Tone Deaf’ Response to Harassment Lawsuit

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick published a letter to employees Wednesday apologizing for the company’s public response to a lawsuit alleging ubiquitous sexual harassment and discrimination at the company.

The letter, published via Activision’s investor relations website, describes the company’s initial response “tone deaf.”

“It is imperative that we acknowledge all perspectives and experiences and respect the feelings of those who have been mistreated in any way,” Kotick wrote. “I am sorry that we did not provide the right empathy and understanding.

The California Department of Fair Employment and Housing sued Blizzard last week for harboring a male-dominated, sexist culture in which employees were frequently the targets of sexual harassment, passed over for promotion, and underpaid relative to their male colleagues.

Blizzard initially called the suit an example of “irresponsible behavior from unaccountable State bureaucrats,” saying the content of the suit was distorted at best and false at worst. More than 2,000 employees have since signed a letter to management condemning that statement.

Now, Kotick says he has asked law firm WilmerHale to review Activision Blizzard’s policies and procedures around respectful and inclusive work conditions. Former director of the US SEC’s Division of Enforcement Stephanie Avakian, now a member of management at WilmerHale, will lead the review, which Kotick says will start “immediately.”

“We are taking swift action to be the compassionate, caring company you came to work for and to ensure a safe environment. There is no place anywhere at our Company for discrimination, harassment, or unequal treatment of any kind.”

Kotick also committed to several steps aimed at improving conditions. The company will add senior staff and other resources to its Compliance and Employee Relations teams and host listening sessions moderated by third parties for employees to share areas for improvement.

All the managers and leaders across Activision Blizzard will be evaluated, and any employees who “impeded the integrity of our processes for evaluating claims and imposing appropriate consequences will be terminated.” That list could include employees as powerful as Blizzard president J. Allen Brack, one of many named in the lawsuit who knew about sexist behavior and failed to sufficiently address it.

Furthermore, the company will add compliance resources to ensure hiring managers are looking at diverse candidate slates for open positions.

Kotick also said Activision Blizzard would remove in-game content described as “inappropriate.” He did not provide a strict definition for what would count as inappropriate. The World of Warcraft team made a similar pledge Tuesday, likely planning to remove characters and items in the game named for Alex Afrasiabi, a former employee named as a serial harasser in the lawsuit.

It’s worth noting Kotick’s letter comes after an $8 drop in Activision Blizzard’s stock price, from around $90 per share to a low of $82. Kotick himself owns 4 million shares, amounting to a $32 million loss in value. Since his letter’s publication, the stock price has risen back up to around $86 per share.

Blizzard employees plan to protest management’s response to the suit with a walkout of the company’s Irvine, California offices to take place Wednesday.

Kotick’s full letter can be read below:

This has been a difficult and upsetting week.

I want to recognize and thank all those who have come forward in the past and in recent days. I so appreciate your courage. Every voice matters – and we will do a better job of listening now, and in the future.

Our initial responses to the issues we face together, and to your concerns, were, quite frankly, tone deaf.

It is imperative that we acknowledge all perspectives and experiences and respect the feelings of those who have been mistreated in any way. I am sorry that we did not provide the right empathy and understanding.

Many of you have told us that active outreach comes from caring so deeply for the Company. That so many people have reached out and shared thoughts, suggestions, and highlighted opportunities for improvement is a powerful reflection of how you care for our communities of colleagues and players – and for each other. Ensuring that we have a safe and welcoming work environment is my highest priority. The leadership team has heard you loud and clear.

We are taking swift action to be the compassionate, caring company you came to work for and to ensure a safe environment. There is no place anywhere at our Company for discrimination, harassment, or unequal treatment of any kind.

We will do everything possible to make sure that together, we improve and build the kind of inclusive workplace that is essential to foster creativity and inspiration.

I have asked the law firm WilmerHale to conduct a review of our policies and procedures to ensure that we have and maintain best practices to promote a respectful and inclusive workplace. This work will begin immediately. The WilmerHale team will be led by Stephanie Avakian, who is a member of the management team at WilmerHale and was most recently the Director of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Enforcement.

We encourage anyone with an experience you believe violates our policies or in any way made you uncomfortable in the workplace to use any of our many existing channels for reporting or to reach out to Stephanie. She and her team at WilmerHale will be available to speak with you on a confidential basis and can be reached at [email protected] or 202-247-2725. Your outreach will be kept confidential. Of course, NO retaliation will be tolerated.

We are committed to long-lasting change. Effective immediately, we will be taking the following actions:

  1. Employee Support. We will continue to investigate each and every claim and will not hesitate to take decisive action. To strengthen our capabilities in this area we are adding additional senior staff and other resources to both the Compliance team and the Employee Relations team.
  2. Listening Sessions. We know many of you have inspired ideas on how to improve our culture. We will be creating safe spaces, moderated by third parties, for you to speak out and share areas for improvement.
  3. Personnel Changes. We are immediately evaluating managers and leaders across the Company. Anyone found to have impeded the integrity of our processes for evaluating claims and imposing appropriate consequences will be terminated.
  4. Hiring Practices. Earlier this year I sent an email requiring all hiring managers to ensure they have diverse candidate slates for all open positions. We will be adding compliance resources to ensure that our hiring managers are in fact adhering to this directive.
  5. In-game Changes. We have heard the input from employee and player communities that some of our in-game content is inappropriate. We are removing that content.

Your well-being remains my priority and I will spare no company resource ensuring that our company has the most welcoming, comfortable, and safe culture possible.

You have my unwavering commitment that we will improve our company together, and we will be the most inspiring, inclusive entertainment company in the world.

Yours sincerely,

Bobby

HUNDEN decides not to extend with Heroic: “I wish to begin a new chapter of my career”

Published

on

Nicolai “HUNDEN” Petersen has decided not to extend his contract with Heroic, the 30-year-old announced in a press release on Wednesday. The Dane chose not to reveal when his current deal with the organization expires when asked by HLTV.org.

“In the past few months, I have been in negotiations with Heroic about a contract renewal, but I have come to the realization that I wish to begin a new chapter of my career once my contract with Heroic expires,” HUNDEN said in a statement amid reports that he could be joining Astralis as Danny “zonic” Sørensen‘s replacement in 2022.

The coach has seemingly already spent some time on the sidelines, as he did not travel with the team to Germany for IEM Cologne in early July for reasons the players and the organization never shared. Instead, Heroic‘s mental and performance coach, Troels “robl” Robl, stood behind the team during their matches at the event.

HUNDEN will leave Heroic after his contract expires at an unknown date

“Heroic and I have been a perfect match, but the recent turn of events is deeply regrettable,” HUNDEN went on to explain before revealing that he had been accused of sharing his team’s strategies behind the scenes.

“Recent rumors claim that I have shared Heroic’s stratbook. This I can categorically deny. I have the biggest respect for Heroic, and I would never want to harm the team or in any way affect them negatively.”

“The material I have shared is anti-strat material of opponents. This material was shared with colleagues from other teams in the context of sparring. Knowledge sharing is essential for me as a coach in respect to staying in the loop and developing. At no point in time has Heroic’s own tactics been shared or discussed.”

HUNDEN has been a part of Heroic for well over a year, having joined the organization in early 2020 as a replacement for Frederik “LOMME” Nielsen. As the coach of the team — and the analyst during the period in which he was banned by ESIC for using the infamous coaching bug — he helped the organization reach new heights, as the Danish squad quickly became a consistent contender for deep runs and titles, most notably winning ESL One Cologne and DreamHack Open Fall in 2020 and ESL Pro League Season 13 in 2021.

Victory Five fines jungler pzx for not taking Smite in their match against Suning

Published

on

LPL continues its tradition of having players who forget to take Smite. After eStar Esports fined jungler Wei last split, Victory Five joined in today with another fine for their jungler Peng “pzx” Zhan-Xiang for failing to take Smite in V5’s series against Suning yesterday.

According to an unofficial translation of an article posted on Weibo by the organization, the player was fined one month’s salary for his mistake and received a warning for his behavior. This situation happened in the LPL repeatedly in recent times, and it’s unclear whether there will be changes to the ruleset to allow for a remake should such a situation arise again.

This win would have been important for the V5 squad, who are currently sitting in the last place without a series win with a score of zero wins and 13 losses. They were close to taking down Suning during the series, but the mistake from the first game was a free loss in the series. With the draft they had, they would have been able to stand a chance against the 2020 world finalists and potentially end their dreadful losing streak.

With three matches left against EDward Gaming, FunPlus Phoenix, and LGD Gaming, it’s unlikely that V5 will be able to pick up a series win and end the regular 2021 LPL Summer Split with a win.

Evil Geniuses partners with UK soccer club Wolves

Published

on

North American esports organization Evil Geniuses has revealed a partnership with Premier League soccer club Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, it was announced today.

The partnership will see the Fosun Sports Group, which acquired the Wolves in 2016, make a minority investment in EG, valuing the team at $255 million post-investment. With this deal, Evil Geniuses will be the first esports team with a physical presence in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.

The partnership and investment will enable EG to continue expanding its business into global markets. The deal will also see Wolves branding featured on EG’s uniforms, as well as collaboration to create English and Chinese content, sponsorship opportunities, and jointly branded merchandising.

“We are thrilled to partner with Wolves, a storied football club and strong sports and entertainment brand that aligns with our values and mission,” EG’s CEO Nicole LaPointe Jameson said. “This deal will help power Evil Geniuses’ expansion into the Asian markets while also providing new capital to sign more world-class players and grow into new esports titles.”

This is not the first step for Wolves in esports as the soccer club owns teams in FIFA, Call of Duty Mobile, and Rocket League, which will not be dissolved, according to Wolves Esports’ manager Michael Moriarty.

“Wolves Esports isn’t going anywhere–we’ll still be keeping our presence in China as well as the titles we have based here in Wolverhampton,” he said. “This partnership between the club and EG will benefit all sides, as we grow and develop esports excellence together.”
