Key speakers at the two-day event which kicked off on Monday include Al Qaeda hostage Stephen McGown, The Walt Disney Company former vice president of innovation and creativity Duncan Wardle, world champion hurdler Jana Pittman and former New Zealand prime minister John Key.

Ray White managing director Dan White told the crowd on Monday the group had never been in a better position.

“The hard work, curiosity and commitment of everyone here has given us a wonderful opportunity, and put us on a higher perch and to look out to bigger possibilities,” he said.

“The quality and honesty of our collective discussions and debate on how we best seize these opportunities are critical, and everyone’s role in that is vital.”

Almost 3000 Ray White members attended Connect 2022.

He said the leading group was lucky as the unique experience it offers was “a family experience”.

“We are open and honest with our communication that sometimes may be difficult but is always given with the best of intentions, to grow and move forward,” Mr White said.

“That is our unique experience.

“Our best days are still well ahead of us.

In his keynote address, former New Zealand prime minister John Key discussed the idea of mastering leadership.

As the 38th prime minister of New Zealand, Mr Key led his country through the aftermath of the global financial crisis and a series of devastating earthquakes.

“What does being a prime minister teach you – that you can cope with a lot less sleep than you think and a lot less stress than you think,” Mr Key said.

“Do you really think you can achieve things? You have to believe in yourself.”

World champion athlete Jana Pittman also shared her story at Ray White’s Connect conference.

Well-known for her athletics career, Dr Pittman, now a medical practitioner as well as 2021 Sports Hall of Fame inductee, has been on a roller coaster ride of triumph, defeat, failure and success.

Her journey has helped shape her career and built her into who she is today – a doctor, mother, sportswoman and even a TV star on Channel 7’s SAS.

The theme of Dr Pittman’s speech was to inspire conversation on how to get over the hurdles in life.

“I’m here today to talk not about my success but about my failures,” she said.

“I want to flip the idea of failure on its head a little bit here because I 100 per cent believe had I not wanted that Olympic gold medal, had I not been through miscarriages, had I not been through the ups and downs of the media, I wouldn’t be this strong, powerful woman who’s able to voice her opinion.

“I genuinely believe had I not gone through the ups and down, I wouldn’t have had the courage to learn who I was and stand on my own two feet and share that really very personal, very private, very embarrassing component of myself.”
