Propeller Failure on take off at Langley Airport causes a mayday call

Date:

26 June 2021 | Submitted by FC

Friday, June 18, 2021 one minute into flight during the take off phase, a loud bang followed by the engine immediately quitting reveling 1 of the 3 blades snapped off in a blink of an eye.

An immediate turn 180 back to Langley Airport along with a mayday call to the tower. All aircrafts on take off had to be immediately diverted to allow my plane I was piloting to land on the take off end (the wrong end) of the runway.

Fortunately, the plane landed safely with no injuries but a lot of damage due to the broken prop striking the engine cowling.

The company, who rebuilt the propellers, didn’t have any comments and maybe under TSB investigation.
