Midfield Magic
Last year we saw 19 midfielders nominated for Team of the Year, with six representatives from the Premier League.
Bruno Fernandes and Kevin De Bruyne were joined in the official Team of the Year XI by Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich, and it could be something similar again this year.
Chelsea will likely have two midfielders on the shortlist, and possibly even three after their Champions League success back in May.
Take a look at the players we expect to see on this year’s shortlist below.

Kevin De Bruyne
It’s not really a Team of the Year shortlist without Kevin De Bruyne, and it was yet another magical year for the Belgian superstar.
Injuries once again hampered KDB, but that didn’t stop him scoring three times in last season’s Champions League knockout rounds as he helped City all the way to the final.

N’Golo Kante
We fully expect N’Golo Kante to feature in FIFA 22 Team of the Year after picking up the Man of the Match award in the 2021 Champions League final.
Kante was sensational in helping the Blues claim the European crown and is definitely among the world’s best three midfielders.

Bruno Fernandes
Bruno Fernandes has set an extremely high bar for himself since arriving in the Premier League, so his numbers so far this season look paltry in comparison to his first season.
However, the Portuguese superstar has been outstanding in European competitions in 2021, providing six assists this season and nine goal involvements in last season’s Europa League knockout rounds.

Jorginho
Much has been made of Jorginho’s inclusion on the Ballon d’Or shortlist this year, but his Euro 2020 and Champions League winners’ medals make a strong case for him!
While Jorginho may not have been the star himself, his presence in both squads and a subsequent nomination for Player of the Year will surely see him among the TOTY nominees.

Christopher Nkunku
If there was a Team of the Season So Far event this season, Christopher Nkunku would be among the first names on the team sheet.
The RB Leipzig star scored 15 goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions before the turn of the year, ranking him among the best in Europe in 2021.
