Niantic Labs’ Pokemon GO Referral Program is now live nationwide for all trainers—new and returning.

In what appears to be an effort to expand their active user base, Niantic Labs has officially launched their brand new trainer Referral Program to offer incentives for new trainers interested in the game and those thinking of returning. We’ve broken down exactly how it works and how to reap those rewards below.

“Whether it’s your friend’s first time playing or they’re returning after a break, they’ll receive rewards like Pokémon encounters, Rare Candy, Incubators, and more as they hit milestones on their adventure—and so will you!” Niantic wrote on an official post explaining the program.

First, trainers will need to refer their friend—now available through the “Invite” option on the Friends tab. This should generate a unique referral code for the established trainer to share with anyone they wish to refer. The relationship will be activated once the referred trainer inputs the code either while they’re signing-up or on their Friends tab after reactivating an inactive account.

Trainers are only eligible to be referred if they are brand new or have not logged into their account for at least 90 days.

As new trainers continue their journey, both they and the established trainer will receive rewards such as Eggs, Incubators, Lures, Berries, PokeBalls, and more. A further explanation is available both on Niantic’s official Pokemon GO news and updates blog as well as their support site.
